#Israel / The UN is reportedly taking the unprecedented step of blacklisting Israel over alleged grave violations against children during the 2023 conflicts

Israeli Channel 13 reported that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has informed Israel's military attache in the U.S. that his decision is final to include Israel on the UN's blacklist of countries and groups harming children in conflict zones, alongside Russia and terror groups like ISIS, Al-Qaeda and Boko Haram.

The report, covering 2023, will accuse Israel of killing and injuring thousands of Palestinian children, bombing civilian facilities, and preventing humanitarian aid access, citing over 20,000 alleged violations against children.

Israel fears this could lead to practical consequences like weapons embargoes from other countries, in addition to the reputational damage of being on such a list alongside dictatorships and terror groups.

I anticipate another tantrum by Netanyahu.

@zleap @oatmeal @israel @palestine i wonder how the german state weasels its way out of this into doing continued support.

@zleap they don't like it, to put it mildly... more the exclusion of Hamas than anything else... Hamas wasn't included because the investigation wasn't conclusive, AFAIK

Hamas may be classed as a terror group, but they also have a political wing that speaks up for the people otherwise why would hhe health ministry release casualty figures. Regardless of the status of Hamas killing children should be a red line, one or two casualties is inevitable we should at least accept a small number, but we are talking about 1000s killed 1000s injured and 1000s left homeless, orphaned, and traumatised long term. The IDF are doing all this, and there are ways to conduct operations where civilian casuaties can be vastly minimsed.

Lets see if the UK government now class the IDF as a prescribed group.
