I hadn't thought about it, but I'm really glad mastodon didn't opt for labeling "follows" as "friends". it's really mainly a Facebook thing, but even on Facebook, I think the label has too much baggage. so many "Facebook friends" I have that I probably couldn't pick out of a lineup these days
@trinsec ah. forgot that aspect. haven't used fb in ... years now🤷♂️
@2ck Yeah, friends would make absolutely no sense. I follow people if they're interesting... and they won't suddenly be my best buddies because of that.
FB's mechanic is also a bit different.. you can't follow someone and not be followed back. It's a two-way street.
