@georgia@spinster.xyz I don't believe that tusky hardblocks gab, just logging in. I use tusky on my phone and I am pretty sure I see posts from gab folks. I don't follow that many of them, but I thought I saw posts from them. I could be wrong, don't listen to a thing I say :)

Consider Subway Tooter as well. I used that for a while. but I liked tusky just fine. And it handles multiple instances. Subway tooter handles multiple instances at the same time without having to swap back and forth.

possible distasteful verbal imagery

@Glitches@spinster.xyz I am curious why people do this. If I were so upset that I was abandoning some platform/media whatever... I would simply delete what I cared to, and drop out. What is the goal of announcing your impending departure? Are you hoping for people to beg you to stay? Perhaps to coddle and woo you into some cozy warm feeling of love and acceptance. Or simply to garner the attention for its own sake.

I am sorry if this sounds overly critical. I see this in all the social media. I have seen it in the news groups and the forums. I find it similar to realizing you are drinking from the beer bottle that has your chewing tobacco spit in it instead of the beer, but then taking the time to gargle with it a little before spitting it out.

If you are in a bad place, run away fast, don't walk, get out!

honestly, it's hard to go from google calendar to nextcloud calendar. anyone knows smooth online floss (self-hosted?) calendar one could use with caldav/nextcloud?

cc @switchingsocial ?

@Rovine maybe, but I would guess you will only mostly use a subset of them. After a little time of using it they will be in your muscle memory. The rest, you will either never use, or won't ever bother remembering and just look them up when you need them.

@mk @moa_party @foozmeat Well isn't that what people are doing now? From what I can tell the instance is invite only and local to Portland. If it is likely that they have a population of transgender or those who love them, and they are trying to create a safe space for them then they would do well to insulate from spinster. Probably a fair number of other instances as well. They just don't want you "saving" their "sinners", if you get my metaphore.

Not everyone is into the open exchange of ideas.

I am not sure if "men" has anything to do with it. It hurts the back of my head just below my ear on the left whenever you use the word "men" with the venom I imagine in the tone. (I admit this can simply be my own perception, but it comes across that way when I read it.) There are whole chunks of history that I fear are being forgotten, and learned strategies that will have to be re-imagined because of it.

There was a time when black persons and white persons had to work in cooperation to get justice. There was a time when lesbians had to work with gay men to get justice. There was a time when gay persons had to work together with straight persons to get things accomplished. If each continued to alienate the other framing them in the devil role nothing would have been accomplished, or perhaps regression would have been the outcome.

I can agree or disagree with your writings. You can't discount my opinions solely based on my chromosome patterns.

Keep doing what you are doing, and don't worry about pdx.social. :)

@Rovine I see what you mean. I can't imagine flashcarding for an editor would be all that effective. But working through the commands certainly does help a lot. When I would teach a new program to people, I wouldn't let them write anything down while I was showing them what to do. I made them hit the keys I was telling them, and later when we were done, if there was something that was particularly un-rememberable they could go back and make a note. Usually those notes fit on a sticky note instead of a legal pad :)

nyx dev, -

@kiilas It doesn't look too bad. Personally, I would initialized a few variables at declaration. What kind of issues are you concerned with?

@yisraeldov Lisp and Makefiles.. If you think about it learning Lisp is like learning Latin. It will help in other things. When you later want to write more complex Makefiles you find that thinking in lists/processing will help.

@yisraeldov MOT - member of the tribe. Sorry, it's a "Jewish" thing. You were going in that direction with the hasid and UO reference, I thought I was in the same metaphorical space :)

@yisraeldov @architect well huzzah for an MOT regardless of denominational relationship :)

@yisraeldov @architect that's not what RMS says :) But, if you are an Emacs person, then no need to install evil.

@yisraeldov @architect and if you are not an Emacs guy, just install evil mode and use vim keys. :)

@FemaleXyz @mk I would like to say something thoughtful and supportive but there is really no way I can understand what you are going through. Thoughts and prayers and those other sentiments seem so hollow in what I can only imagine being a terribly painful situation. Be well, and find peace. I hope you and your daughter both can.

offensive terms

@BriJ@spinster.xyz Oh, yeah that's what straight guys want. A bunch of sissy boys running around pretending to be girls. I don't know if it is helping the homo-dudes much, they are having enough trouble without something so amazingly confusing and difficult for the general public to understand.

Feminists on all the waves have their troubles to overcome.

But perhaps... and this is conjecture, give me a little leeway here... with all the talk of toxic masculinity, or the toxicity of any masculinity in general has made it unpalatable enough to be a dude... perhaps that some are buying into it and choosing to claim to be trans or nb to escape being told at every turn about their privilege and such? I could be wrong.

@alex I have yet to piss too many folks off enough to block me, except for amber yesterday and person that complained about their weight that I suggested having their thyroid checked, who got all pissed because they were recovering from an eating disorder. :) Live and learn, my bad :)
