Consider the song "Chocta Bingo". It's been covered by more than one singer. Could it be released today and get radio airplay?

I grew up mostly in the North East (USA) where so many people were 1st or 2nd generation European immigrants. A common question, definitely not considered rude, was "what are you?" To which people would quickly list of their pedigree "Scots Irish Pennsylvania Dutch German etc..." Everyone had and knew their heritage, and their families all had some remnant of their cultural traditions they practiced in one way or another, especially around holidays.

There is a culture shock about this when one moves to the South of the (USA) where most persons you will come in contact with (at least those of European descent) are some 12th generation and if you ask then "What are you?" You are likely to get a rather insulted look and a response such as "White, can't you tell?"

No judgement, just an interesting observation from my now much older eyes.

I envy people who got to grow up with multiple active languages. I feel I was robbed of 2 languages I should have learned as a child Yiddish and Russian. The only phrase I ever heard clearly in either of them was "Say it in Russian/Yiddish, the children are listening."

Just had a long spiritual/religious conversation with someone. When it was over, I realized it was the first time I have had it from the secular side of the conversation.

English is such an odd lanugage sometimes. Because I am a beekeeper my daughter bought me a wood (Or linoleum) cut print of a bee and the quote "The keeping of bees is like the direction of sunbeams." - HDT

I had to read it over and over again, out loud to finally get the meaning. I guess I just don't use "direction" to mean "act of directing" ...

A holocaust denier, a flat earther and a climate change denier walk into a bar... Wait a second, I don't believe in any of them, so the bar is still empty!

Hello Qoto! Is this the instance I am looking for? Can I discuss controversial topics on either side of the argument? Is anything off topic? Can I criticize things or are there some golden calves I need to avoid?
