You know how we laugh at journalists being vultures jumping onto any tragedy to shit out as much content about it as possible? It's somewhat understandable but also quite disgusting. That's the feeling I get every time I visit youtube recently.

It's really bewildering to hear from a western tankie their alternative history in which the soviet bloc countries had it super cool and all the badness is just capitalist propaganda and being shown a recording of some one guy in Latvia that actually liked it as proof, while being East European and knowing how it really was — awful to the point of people hijacking planes just to get to the other side of the Iron Curtain.

This is basically the web / app experience of everyone using a language with latin-esque alphabet but with diacritics. People choose a fancy font, don’t bother to check if its authors bothered to include diacritics, and without a thought apply it to the translated versions.

The funny thing about stupid anti-communist memes is that no matter how dumb they are, unironic commie beliefs are dumber.

There is no "right-wing pipeline" that comes even close in its effectiveness to just how absolutely insufferable vocal left-wing people tend to be. When I see memes pushing right-wing propaganda I just scroll further, when I see the way leftists behave I have to resist the urge to repost these memes just to piss them off.

The failure to notice and address that costs progressive movements more people than any doge shitposting group could ever achieve.

As a child I didn't understand why there are scenes of people punching/slamming through a wall in so many movies, it's horribly unrealistic. I only learned later that no, homes in the US have walls out of cardboard. Interesting choice for a country plagued by tornadoes.

So I've made a negative of a friend's profile picture for a meme and TIL that the Ukraine flag in negative basically just turns upside-down.

One of Poland's major cities is called Łódź, which just means Boat. This is apparently funny enough that "The City of Boat" or "Boat City", verbatim in English, has become a fairly common humorous nickname for it. That, and it's a pretty funny city on its own, since like 40% of it looks as if the Germans just stopped bombing it yesterday, another 40% as if the communist gov never fell, and it all clashes with the remaining presentable 20% magnificently. And often these different "styles" are right next to each other. If you ever have a chance to visit it on the way I highly recommend it, even the attached pictures don't give that extreme contrast justice. Just don't wait too long, they're making progress broadening that 20% and in another 20 years it may look like just another western city.
Another nickname: "uć". It's read similarly to "Łódź" but has only two letters which is pretty impressive. It also sounds kinda funny but that can't be conveyed in text or pictures.

"The planetoid 440794 was given the name Wytrzyszczak after the name of dr. Iwona Wytrzyszczak" man I feel sorry for foreign astronomers already lol

Quick reminder that when a society bases its politics on magical thinking, this is the kind of shit that happens

"A woman watching a portable TV Sony TV5-303 in a car, Japan, 1963. Toilet paper in rolls has yet to appear in USSR for 6 more years."

PS: how am I supposed to add image description to a Polish meme uploaded with translation for international community? I settled for English description with exact Polish quote but I'm sure some English screen reader users will be quite unhappy when it tries to read it and spits out garbage.

If the next market AI starts conquering will be the goddamn onlyfans crowd I will lose it. We live in the most blursed timeline.
