@thor it's honestly surprising to me that I haven't heard of such a project being at least planned yet, controlling something like a subway is already 99% automated, add a system to detect people on tracks and properly close doors and job's done pretty much. I assume there's some union shenanigans going on though, since the train drivers don't want to be out of a job.

@lamp@berserker.town @thor that's where we get to the age old dilemma, should you kill less humans to save more humans in the long run? Not that I think it's at such a catastrophic point yet nor that an attempt would achieve anything other than big war and even more deaths.

What's up with anglophones and their complete inability to use measurements that make sense? It's not just the US using a measurement system so inconventient its original inventors dropped it or somehow arriving at the decision that month/day/year is a good way to write dates, they even managed to screw up simple measurement of time on a 12-hour clock. I hope whoever officially decided that 11am > 12pm > 1pm > … > 11pm > 12am > 1am is the correct order was hanged, preferably also tortured beforehand.

This is also my experience on fedi every time you clowns spam with with whatever random chart you found on the internet

@thor and Scandinavia had a more collective culture since basically forever while America is a melting pot of religious crazies, former slaves and other immigrants from all over the world with nearly no common culture except for that of exploiting each other as much as possible which evolved naturally in such a messy society, being the best way to succeed.

@robpike @yuvipanda All of those years of bit rot and dead code are catching up to us. It's the software version of the accumulation of space junk orbiting Earth.

Does anyone have any technology that works? I am becoming despondent over the state of things. So much technological progress and yet everything seems to be broken (or must be updated, which amounts to the same thing in user experience) all the time.

Sorry.

@thor celery is ~95% water. I can walk on celery, therefore I am ~95% Jesus.

@foone ah yes, the two problems. "It doesn't work, I have no idea why" and "It works, I have no idea why".

It’s kinda sad to see people think I’m ’bribed’ by Meta.. I have not signed anything, I did not attend anything from them nor did I accept anything but still the worst is assumed when I don’t agree on blocking a still in development project that we don’t even know the (domain)name from right away

I don’t have any love for Meta or any of such companies whatsoever, that’s why I’m putting all I have in these platforms and guard it with my life so don’t expect Meta to get a ‘free pass’ on anything

@thor @mjdxp AFAIK the difference is that a federation is a union under a common government like the US, Russia and partially EU, while a confederation is a union based on common pacts, which aren't all forced on all members. (Partially like the EU, where being members of the EU parlament, economical union, having Euro and being in Schengen are all different things and there are countries that do some but not the others.)

@jeder I love parcel lockers so much. Urbanists worldwide are writing essays about the last mile problem while this country with shitty urbanism solved it many years ago

I'm pretty sure these programmers were trying to hide information from the compiler.
when you find yourself doing this, you need to stop and rethink your life. go for a walk.
