Tuesday update on the #mastodon growth. 135k (!!) users join yesterday. Also, I'm zooming out the plot to see the evolution in the number of new users through the last year. I'm going to need a logarithm scale pretty soon 😎

I just randomly stumbled upon a #javascript library, the only job of which is returning the value of MAX_UINT8, being 255. It has tests, coverage tests, and browser support tests, all of which pull their own libraries. Jesus Christ.

It also appears to have a build error, which is just the cherry on top.
@eevee made a funny observation on twitter:
“the web used to be powered by teenagers teaching themselves html from scraps just so they could make a geocities too, and now grown adults with careers are baffled by the mere existence of the choice between mastodon dot social or furry dicks dot yiff”

The "hurhur self driving cars / pods are literally trains" meme seems to pretend the two biggest reasons why people choose cars over public transport don't exist:
- You can go from start to finish using the most efficient route and without having to transfer between different lines hoping they don't desync and leave you waiting for the next train.
- You can travel in comfort without having to deal with other people being loud, obnoxious, smelly, crowded or taking all seats.
Yes, platooning pods resemble trains, hilarious and on point for the 1000th time. The thing is that they satisfy the above conditions unlike public transport, every form of which completely fails both.
Adam Something and his consequences have been a disaster for public discussion on transport.

When designing a user interface, imagine some old woman using it, say Margaret Hamilton, and she's clicking your app's buttons and saying to you, as old people do,
"Young whippersnapper, when I was your age, I sent 24 people to the ACTUAL MOON with my software in 4K of RAM and here I am clicking your button and it takes ten seconds to load a 50 megabyte video ad and then it crashes
I'm not even ANGRY with you, I'm just disappointed."
