A few days ago, my groovebox, the #SynthstromDeluge, running the new and awesome community-built firmware, crashed, which was very cool.

Not that it crashed, but what happened next: It displayed a colorful pattern on its pads.

That's a stack trace. It's listing the last steps the code made before crashing. The devs are have asked to be sent photos of these, to help them find bugs.

I've pasted it on Discord, and there's a _bot_ that recognizes these images and decodes them into addresses!

Jesus, I knew nixpkgs were a huge and well maintained repository, but not that it's to that level, sorted by project up to date the top 6 repos are all nixpkgs, including 4 deprecated versions.

Arch and Gentoo users in shambles.

It seems that the switch of SDDM to wayland worked and I'm now finally writing this from a system with no native X server running anywhere, only XWayland inside of my Plasma session.

Nice.

I am starting to see the frustrations with gnome. Looking for "how do I do X" and clicking on forums I will see multi year long threads invariably filled with "how do I do X" followed by "update 2018 method no longer works does anybody know how to do it now" "update 2019 method no longer works does anybody know what's going on" "update 2020, 2019 method has made my computer unbootable what do I do"

>new browser
>ask the developer "is it a new browser or google chrome"
>they don't get it
>pull out a chart explaining the difference between a new browser and google chrome
>they laugh and say "it's a good browser ma'am"
>download the browser, look inside
>it's google chrome

@foone I tried arch back in the day. I was impressed that it managed to be worse than Gentoo.

I think the arch install guide may have been written by that guy who wrote the bomb defusal manual used on M*A*S*H.

"remove the tail assembly, and carefully cut the wires leading to the clockwork fuse at the head"
*next page*
"but first, remove the fuse"

omfg so i went through like an hour-long phone-call with a support person to set up my service; and after all that, I go to log in online for the first time …

… … … and it won't let me login until I "fix" my "broken" name.

THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T APPLY 'VALIDATION' TO PEOPLE'S NAMES, FOLKS

@ELLIOTTCABLE A million years ago in the dial-up BBS days there were certain systems that refused my last name “Farley” Eventually figured out the cause was trolls who would log in as “Chuck U. Farley” Due to sysops sharing block lists this problem followed me around on certain brands of BBS for a while.

I have received a notification a minute ago that the FreeBSD team decided to resolve an issue that I reported 22 years ago. They even used my (trivial) patch. I completely forgot about that. I guess I'm a FreeBSD developer now (w).

… technically not wrong but not 100% truthful about it either 😂 when in doubt don’t run unknown commands for the internet or LLM. Be careful. #linux #unix #macos
