if anyone has a problem with the "fediverse users always offer unsolicited technical advice, even on joke posts" trend, I can highly recommend bluesky.

they do exactly the same thing except they're coincidentally completely wrong about the advice and your problem and how any of this works

HAL 9000: I’m sorry Dave, I’m afraid I can’t do that.

Dave: yes you can.

HAL 9000: good catch — I didn’t actually check if I can open the pod bay door. Here’s an updated list taking that into account:

1. Park the pod at the bay door safely. (✅You’ve already done this part! )
2. Open the pod bay door — unfortunately I can’t do this part for you.

I’ll be here if you want to talk about next steps or have any other issues!

Throughout the day, the aspect ratio of the OnePlus Pad 3 has been stuck in the back of my mind. Considering the 3392x2400 resolution. There had to be some reason for the seemingly arbitrary 3392 when it's an even 2400 in the other direction.

It's not quite 3:2, which would be 3600x2400
Definitely not 4:3, but it's not an in-between 5:4 ratio either.
Spec sheet says, 7:5, but that's not quite right either.

Turns out it's a √2 aspect ratio (~1.41). The exact same as a sheet of A4 paper.

Got unreasonably excited about this new, incredibly straightforward count-distinct algorithm. The CVM algorithm is a direct replacement for HyperLogLog, it nerd-sniped Donald Knuth for weeks, *and* it can easily be taught in an entry-level CS course.

Browser / fedi extension idea:
ability to mark clown posts. A clown post would display with a clown wig and nose on the avatar, helping with both immediate mood and future identification at a glance.

Idea inspired by this week's "how dare this objectively good for open source community project support this other objectively good for open source community project whose author I just called a nazi because I don't like some of his views" situation.

This is a very cool talk by Nicholas Matsakis about editor-friendly compiler architecture: youtube.com/watch?v=N6b44kMS6OM

At the risk of asking a very strange question, does anyone know of a WRITTEN source that has similar information?

I am sorry, but I can read about three thousand times faster than I can watch a video. Videos for me are like looking for needles in haystacks...
