It’s always a good sign when the owner’s personal lawyer tells employees that though they may be violating the law, they won’t be sentenced to prison.

"The entire $16 billion fortune of FTX co-founder Sam Bankman-Fried has now been wiped out, one of history’s greatest-ever destructions of wealth."
To everyone, like me, who is new here on Mastodon -- I swear, I feel like I'm in Canada, escaping Gilead -- here are two posts by the primary developer of the platform (and owner of the non-profit that holds the trademarks etc) explaining that you should ignore people lecturing you about what you should and shouldn't post here. I now consider this issue settled, and will no longer respond to these folks. Time to embrace Mastodon! Thank you for welcoming us.

4. Prediction-based coverage comes at a high cost because it crowds out the coverage that voters actually need.
To make an informed decision, voters need to know the practical impact of voting for each candidate.
1. Political media is broken
Major outlets spent weeks PREDICTING there would be a "red wave" and EXPLAINING its causes
It was all based on polls, which are unreliable
This kind of coverage is not just pointless, it's harmful

I'm really liking the 500-character limit here.
It just gives more space, when you need it, to chat in a conversational manner and expand upon some ideas.
Of course I've been trained up by The Other Place to be very pithy and cutting when I need to... but I'm rather enjoying the ability here to just stretch out my legs a little more comfortably on these mini-blogs. It feels nice.
Every vote really, really, really does count.
Also too: the Boebert thing is not at all a done deal.
I took a relatively large step (for me) and self-published my poetry, on my web site, with a link from the front page. #Poetry is personal and always feels like people won’t appreciate that piece of you; but I think my poems are quite good to be honest. I’m proud of them and I think they’ve got some universality and make you think.
So I present to you the most recent, which drove me to do this (because I like it, and hope you do too): “To Build a Fire.” #PoetryCommunity https://www.trisweb.com/poetry/mine/tobuildafire.html
You have set up an extraordinary server. And an ecosystem that can enable people to do and write good science on #fediverse
Qoto.org is like #arxiv of fediverse.
I feel like Neo walking into the Matrix for the first time. No, Dorothy landing in Oz. No, wait. Charlie walking into Wonka, Inc., only without all the arbitrary rules. HI! #introduction
