I lived in Mesa in the mid-eighties and remember them well. I once stepped outside to see how bad that would be, and it was pretty bad. Sandy dirt got in my eyes and nose and shirt pocket. A few years later, I also walked through a dust devil in the desert. It was right there, how could I resist? It was a similar experience, though the dust devil had more force.

Though it would be difficult to keep it from being tainted by attitudes towards Carlos' sex change, I suspect.

And one of the great things about her site is the occasional original song performance, complete with stage gestures and everything. When I first discovered her site-- I think because I'd just read "Lost in Math"-- I surely did not expect the musical numbers. Really delightful!
@mcnees
And thanks again! I should be able to track it down.
@samim
One of the first thoughts is always something like "Wow, it's always been like this and I didn't know."
@CatLovingCommie
Brilliant.

Thanks very much for the link. I've pulled up the article and will have a look at it shortly. I'd seen at least one discussion of the paradox on Sabine Hossenfelder's site some time back, but didn't read it at the time because I was still trying to get a basic handle on particle physics at the time. 🤔

And I noticed that I crave more sugar and fat than I used to. The good news is that stage 4 means I don't care about cholesterol any more-- my monthly blood tests don't even bother to look at that. 😆
@GeekAndDad
Yeah, timing medications is something I had to create a spreadsheet for because it had gotten that complicated. I carry a little pillbox in my watch pocket just in case I happen to be out and about when it's time for something or other. And I use alarms on my smartwatch to remind me what to take when. Being sick is not as simple as some might think.😉
@mcnees
Thank you! I see a dive into basic Wikipedia info in my very near future; cosmology is good stuff! 👍
@drdrowland
Ahh, I had not thought of it that way. That would be an interesting thing to contemplate. Trying to remember what happened when and what my time was worth would be a challenge in itself, though I think I could come up with a crude estimate.
Two months after Jair Bolsonaro lost his re-election bid for the presidency, angry supporters charged into Brazil’s Congress and presidential offices on Sunday. https://www.nytimes.com/live/2023/01/08/world/brazil-congress-protests-bolsonaro?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare
I gave up 15 years on Twitter and 22,000 followers. I used my anniversary to invite others to follow me to Mastodon, and I pointed out that every tweet is a donation to Musk. We know what he is and what he's doing. He gave Michael Flynn his account back on the anniversary of the Jan. 6 insurrection.
I started my #Twitter exodus as a boycott against Musk. Now, I'm thrilled to be here. I miss a few things, but Mastodon is just built better. I feel like it makes me (and you) better, too.
@KLlewellin @DolphinSeeker
Thanks for the intro! I'll tag along with you and see where we go.
@mcnees
That's interesting, I didn't know that our sun is not massive enough! What's the approximate amount of mass required?
@drdrowland
What about those of us who are self-taught? My certifications weren't free, but the costs associated with those would be nothing compared to a traditional college education. 😉
