I was in the back yard just now and saw a house finch land on the anemometer--- you know, those wind-speed dealies on home weather stations-- and go round and round and round. Lucky for her it was only maybe 80 or 90 rpm at the time and not gusty. It was a good ten seconds before she flew off to find another ride somewhere else (I presume that's what she's doing because that's what I'd do if I were a house finch.)
It was hard to tell what she thought of the experience. Finch faces aren't very expressive.
That may have been the first time I ever laughed out loud at something happening in nature. I hope she wasn't embarrassed!

That's a good point, I was quite disappointed at the time and even more so later when more info came out about their deliberately lackadaisical process. I guess we just have to wait and see. At least it's free entertainment.😉
@lauren
I'd prefer to know more about who on the left side is doing stupid things, so I'd be perfectly okay with an increase in volume on that topic. Not for attack purposes; I'm only a couple of inches away from being a socialist myself, but so I can be prepared to counter stupid things when I happen across them.
No blockage here! I greedily await any observations you might have. 👍
@paulkruczynski
Ah, that's a shame. I much prefer the clever one, and am surprised the hip and modern Guardian wouldn't go for it. Who do they think they are, The Times? 😉
@twitterreject @charlie_savage
They might if they felt like they were under attack. See Comey, James. 😉

I retired my old Shaeffer Snorkels and such some time ago because they were just too fussy. The new inexpensive models with cartridge refills work amazingly well-- the nib might not be all fancy with gold or palladium, but they're the smoothest pens I've ever used. I have two, a Pilot Retro and a Waterman, and neither was over $20.
I like to use them because I need constant reminders to slow down and appreciate things more. Cowboy boots also help with that, because they make me walk slower and more deliberately. I'm trying to unlearn the in-a-hurry habit I somehow managed to incorporate when I was working.

Start with @donmelton and @harphat and watch their feeds for things that interest you. You'll be at 1500 in no time. I sort of did that by accident and have discovered many an interesting person. There will be a wide range of interests to select from.
@Anthro Interesting scientist. He was also the master of the academic burn (and, apparently, lip reading). From the USGS archives.
@Thomashegna @Anthro
I have read a lot of things today. I mean, a lot. All else pales before this sparkling gem. This is simply the most beautiful and well-crafted thing I will see for quite a while, I'm sure.
Thanks very much for posting that. I'll now start putting a list together of people to send it along to. 😆
@TerryBernstein @SecularJeffrey
And just think, those people probably vote. This is why we can't have nice things.
@mashbooq @timbray @davidgerard @davew @mitchw @BarbNerdy Also, every subscription provides *way* too much content. I understand why writers need to do “write a lot, charge a lot”, but as a reader I don’t have time read that much from a single writer.
Doesn’t help that a single writer producing lots of content with no editor is not exactly a recipe for tight and efficient writing.
@crowvocado
Very nice indeed. Watch your mailbox for your Internet Achievement award!
@juglugs
And that was just the SHORT list of reprehensible behaviors.
I'm really delighted that my state (AZ) has legalized THC products, though I have no personal interest in using it myself. I know a couple of people who did some time for pot before that happened. It's ludicrous.
@lauren
That's an excellent point, and the very idea of going after the FBI in any way will certainly have repercussions to which I look forward.
@bmaz
Good guess! Staples it was. Though I did wind up having to go to OfficeMax during the same outing, since the local (Prescott) Staples apparently no longer even carries fountain pen cartridges. Imagine the boggling my mind underwent on that discovery.
@AndyLowry Those are specifically designed to go in a dispenser, so that each sheet pulls the next one up as you pull it off to use it. Kinda like kleenex.
@AndyLowry Oh, I heave encountered this for.a long time, be careful when shopping at
Staples!
