First time experiencing major world event watching mastodon stream… following #worldcup hashtag 👀⚽️

It's the weekend, and we're taking some downtime, but we wanted to get this instance going before the World Cup (just in case!)

We're exploring the best way to use Mastodon as a publication, including setting a policy for the use of CW and photos. We'll always use ALT text.

Mastodon has changed how I think. Twitter now seems like a server that doesn't want to federate with anyone else, and that everyone else has blacklisted. I'm in awe of how much sense that makes.

I can't help but notice many toots from helpful newbies encouraging you to support the Mastodon Patreon.

It's fine to do that but understand it goes to just two big instances and the official Mastodon dev team.

It does NOT trickle down to YOUR instance. If you want to support your server, donate to it directly. Nearly all the costs of the explosive growth of the past few weeks is borne by local instances.

Mastodon is decentralized. There is no Mastodon Inc. This is not Twitter.

So it seems joinmastodon removed QOTO from their directory without cause, without contacting us, and without any discussion or due diligence.

Since this is the only way to actually find QOTO for new users if it isnt reversed soon it could mean the end for our wonderful community.

If you care about this place remaining fair, respectful, and inclusive environment I highly suggest everyone reach out to them annd voice your objecttion and your disapointment and having no procedure to keep this fair and inclusive.

GmsCompatConfig version 16 is now in the stable channel of our app repository. It resolves the Play Store trying to update itself and Play services to unsupported versions. It's now back to requesting user install an update which only adds split packages.

We're not planning on addressing this for the legacy 3rd generation Pixels which are completely insecure at this point due to lack of full security updates. You can keep sandboxed Google Play working there by rejecting requests by the Play Store to update it, or reinstalling it.

If you accepted these self-update requests from the Play Store on legacy 3rd generation Pixels, you need to uninstall both Play Store and Play services followed by reinstalling them from our app repository. Don't uninstall/reinstall GSF or you'll also need to uninstall/reinstall every other app depending on GSF directly.

Accepting those update requests is fine with GmsCompatConfig v16 again.

We do it this way is so that we're responsible for testing and approving each Play services and Play Store update through our app repository while still supporting installing additional split packages for these apps with extra locales, etc. via the Play Store. Works well again.
