Ok… new here: how do you quote retweet someone?

Another design consideration re: Mastodon is that it works well for ephemeral asynchronous communications, but for many reasons should not be counted on as an archival resource. Media attachments are periodically purged and may not be available after a week, or a month, etc. While some servers may try to preserve content forever, this may be costly and unsustainable. Creators, researchers should treat this as an ephemeral resource and make provisions for self-archiving anything important.

The good thing about my 4yo not napping anymore is that he goes to bed early. We now have the whole evening to ourselves.

When I wrote this piece about the #twittermigration of #sciencetwitter last week, #Mastodon had gained 100,000 users since Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
When I updated it a few days ago, it was half a million.
Now, @Gargron just announced that there are 1 million more users.
The speed and scale of this is remarkable and I know that countless people worked hard to manage it. Thank you!

Lately, when a grad student tells me their lab environment is toxic or unsafe and they need to leave, most of the time it’s not because the advisor was directly aggressive to the student. It’s the advisor failing to properly deal with exclusionary behavior committed by others in the lab.

That leadership failure indicates to the student that they are not wanted and the lab environment is unsafe. In many cases the faculty mentor prides themself on being an ally.

@pmcarlton what’s UMAP? I’m not sure I understood the X,Y axes nor the implication of two proteins being at the same coordinates 😅😅
