AT&T has experienced more than one massive customer data breach and yet they still want to "update" to "more cost-effective" bullshit. Here's a reminder that the "more cost-effective" bullshit isn't only hackable but it's also not covered by the standard Common Carrier laws which I'm sure AT&T wants to evade, big-time.

Unless and until fiber is a direct replacement for copper AND is covered by Common Carrier Law, keep your copper.

I’ve been working on a deep-dive blog post about my small typewriter collection, because I’m that kind of nerd. It’s been really interesting to compare the machines and notice how much variety there is in features, typefaces, and typing, which I never really noticed when using them one at a time. A 🧵

Groups are working to protect trees — and traditions — from the #EmeraldAshBorer

By Carol Bousquet
Published October 10, 2023

"John Daigle, a citizen of the #PenobscotNation and Forest Resources Professor at UMaine, says his grandparents' baskets provided income for the family and a way to connect one generation of Wabanaki to the next.

"'When I interacted more with basket makers and harvesters I gained a deeper understanding of the cultural significance of brown ash, in terms of its ties to one of the creation stories of the #Wabanaki people, of all four tribes in Maine,' Daigle said.

"In addition to seed collection and propagation, there are other efforts underway to stop the march of the emerald ash borer, which was identified last year in Bridgton. That's one location where a non-native wasp that preys on the beetle is being introduced.

"Maggie Lynn, Development and Outreach Manager at Loon Echo Land Trust, says Bridgton is one of a handful of sites across the state where the wasps, native to Asia and reared at a Midwest facility, are being released.

"'We've been releasing them all summer and will again next year... the state will take some trees to see if the wasps are still there and it's working,' she said."

I'll put it side by side for you:

1) An 18-25 year old enlisting in the military works *with* a controlling society's goal to force others to do it's will. They serve as literal living weapons to inflict violent control over other people in society and war.

2) An 18-25 year old transitioning to a physical form and personal/social identity which better fits them *violates* a society's goal to force others to do its will. They threaten the social order.

See the difference?

Well, I'm aware, but just before seeing this thread I was addressing a similar issue with a thread posted by an author who waxed loquacious on the state of the brain of a 25 year old (Dean Burnett) who clearly didn't know what the military counts on in terms of the state of youthful brains.

Think about it--there's a reason why the voting age was lowered from 21 to 18 but never to be considered was raising the military draft age from 18 to 21.

There was more than one person. This was the Boomer issue during the Vietnam War embodied in a couple lines in the song "Eve of Destruction", as follows:
"You're old enough to kill but not for votin'
You don't believe in war, but what's that gun you're totin'?"

...and Boomers successfully changed the voting age from 21 to 18. You're welcome, youngsters.

US Republicans urge Ukraine aid vote, after 'Russian propaganda' warnings

Former U.S. President Donald Trump's secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, added his voice on Monday to growing calls from prominent Republicans to pass billions of dollars in aid for Ukraine, after some party members accused aid opponents of succumbing to Russian propaganda.

Democratic President Joe Biden's request for $95 billion for Ukraine, Israel and other allies passed the U.S. Senate with 70% support but has been stalled for weeks in the House of Representatives as Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson has refused to allow a vote.

As lawmakers returned to Washington from a two-week break on Monday, Johnson gave no word of any plans for a vote on Biden's supplemental request.

Pompeo, a former House member, issued a public letter on Monday urging Johnson to bring up the bill in the House.

"We encourage you to lead with conviction and bring the aid package to a vote," Pompeo said in a letter written with John Walter, president of the Hudson Institute, where Pompeo is a fellow.
