Back on :twitter: your link to :mastodon: is broken (typo, mastOdon, not MastAdon).

With regard to abusive people and abusive platforms:

That sounds so negative, but it is actually a very positive thing to realize.

Comparing :Twitter: to :Mastodon:

@EubieDrew I think the difference between Mastodon & birdsite type places *is* just scale.
The more content & users might give you more of what you think you want to see but I am not sure that is necessarily a good thing.
There may be lots of information on bigger sites, but it is distilled and that distillation has been created by previous personal activity on the sites.
That’s why I prefer it here. It makes me go looking for stuff, rather than having endless streams of often misleading content or 50 versions of the same content.
Take the explosion in Jersey. It was useful to see one report from BBC or Sky but after that the pages of comment & opinion were pointless. Every one has shared the same video clip over and over again. So I go there scroll through a couple of reliable sites, which have it all on their own websites & apps. Birdsite is easy but I can get it all elsewhere. I am really happy not to see the 99% of drivel & hate.
I’ve noticed more pointless commentary appearing here, which is OK, but I wish it was hidden behind a content warning filter.
I’m really pleased to be able to spend my time reading & seeing much more varied content here, which is why I spend most of my time here now.
I no longer get any sort of buzz from getting hundreds of likes on a comment about an MP’s anti Meghan tweet while his elderly constituents slowly drift into a hypothermic coma. I make my point, get a couple of hundred likes but he won’t read the replies or change his behaviour, so what was the point?
For my mental wellbeing I’ll continue to spend most of my time here!

Why is the current GOP not opposed by more people?

To oppose the is to support the coming , People fear the revolution because they fear . Equality would a be change in -- a downgrade.

So just learned about an amazing program from my local library. You request a book they don’t have. They order it delivered to your house. Then when you finish it you return it to the desk at the library and it enters their system. Amazing program and a great way to support authors and make sure great books are in your local library’s collection. Just ordered Aspects by John M Ford with introduction by @neilhimself this way! Been on my to read lists for a while. Now I’ll read it then share it!

I’ve been immersed recently in the far-right online ecosphere and simultaneously watching smart people excusing away Musk’s and Ye’s actions.

People expressing views antithetical to ours are not necessarily mentally ill or performing.

I too believe the conclusions of those on the right are wrong, but it’s not because they are “crazy” or faking or—and we on the left love this one too—because they don’t understand

They want a different future than I do because their values are different.

I think this thread makes good points although I am not 100% onboard with some details. I would emphasize that as strongly and sincerely as I (and possibly you) believe that everyone is a person deserving a life without suffering and with dignity, and that we should help everyone achieve that, the right wing values are held just as strongly: some people do not deserve help, happiness, or dignity. mstdn.social/@leahmcelrath/109

You have to be smarter than the .

Not sure that is happening.

Ryle had a heart attack.

Ryle is now hospitalized after having a heart attack last night. Ryle asked the Awoo! moderation team to write a post on their behalf and to be transparent. The conversation was brief, and we have pieced together most of the details.

Ourselves believe the heart attack was caused by a combination of things, suspect the recent stress involving strong conversations around Fedifence, Fediblock and UFOI. The triggering message was in reply to one of the UFOI threads telling Ryle to kill themselves and with video footage of men brutally stabbing a woman to death. Ryle is unlikely to be around for a while.

Receipts of the post is available on request through direct message to: @Transparency

This material is heinous and will break rules of other instances, so we are only sending this instance administrators/moderators on request. They are free to share at their own risk the receipts.

DO NOT attempt to contact Ryle to harass, upset. The moderation team also now have full access to Ryle’s account, and ourselves will be actively removing any unpleasant direct messages left.

If the heart attack is discussed, ourselves ask that you PLEASE do not tag Ryle in the conversations. Replying to this message is okay. If you are going to discuss anything regarding Ryle otherwise, PLEASE do not tag Ryle on conversations that would cause stress.

“You can find us anywhere you get your podcasts.”

I *adore* this phrase, because it has been like two whole-ass decades and not one single venture capital darling has managed to unseat plain RSS as the distribution method for podcasts. Not one. (And they have really tried!)

Podcasts are just out there, like air. You don’t go to one place to get them; you get them from everywhere and anywhere. You can choose how you want to engage with them and manage them and it is legitimately heartwarming that nothing has ever gotten in the way of that being a fundamental fact.

This is the best of what the web is. It will never have a stock ticker or even a marketing scheme. Most people don’t even know it is there. But it endures (past the many, many attempts by squillionaire corporates to kill it) because of its absolute unshakable utility.

My suggestion: any time you hear “anywhere you get your podcasts”, send a little thanks to RSS for keeping the real web alive.

Anyway can anyone recommend the best and most idiot-proof guide to moving Mastodon servers?
