Our local #FDroid user-group today was great. Since it's holiday season, we had a bit fewer visitors, but that gave us a chance to have a lot of engaging indepth conversations and hands on experiences about topics like:
* verifying our binaries
* lineage device support
* /e/
* F-Droid configuration
* etc.

This time @metalab was very hospitable. (No jackhammering :awesome:). Our live demos also worked surprisingly well, thanks to #ScreenStream. I'm really looking forward to the next one.

Fun fact:

The instance social.masto.host is indirectly funded by LineageOS + F-Droid.

Earlier, I was replacing my phone every 2 years with a new version of the same series. But last year, when my phone was ready for replacement (too slow, no Android updates), I flashed LineageOS + F-Droid on it instead.

I saved โ‚ฌ 187.5 by not buying a new phone. This instance costs โ‚ฌ 5 per month.

P.S. I know the exact cost because I bought one for a family member.

For additional insurance against government, be sure to construct seasteads on that terraformed Mars.

the fediverse reminds me a lot of how things used to be in the '90s a.k.a. the golden age of computing

back when we all had our own dorky fuckin websites on tripod or angelfire or geocities, all unique, all human

back before the internet was taken over by soulless monolithic corporations bent on forcing spy cameras into their users' every orifice

back before advertisers had built themselves a surveillance empire to dwarf the NSA's

back when we were all genuine and sincere and *ourselves.* even if we were total fuckin dorks

all of a sudden these little grassroots social spaces are popping up, with unique and quirky domains, full of people who aren't such cowards that they spend their lives hiding behind a curtain of ironic detachment. it's like the experimental chaos of the '90s but tempered by experience and improved by new technology

there's a reason IRC and pleroma are the only ways i actually *like* interacting with ppl online

'There was a 70% drop in Natural Killer (immune) cell activity following one night of only four hours of sleep.

Imagine the state of your immune system after weeks, if not months, of insufficient sleep.

It should perhaps then come as no surprise to learn that we now have significant links between short sleep and numerous forms of cancer. Currently the list includes cancer of the bowel, cancer of the prostate, and cancer of the breast.

In fact, the link between a lack of sleep and cancer is so pronounced, that recently the WHO decided to classify any form of nightime shift work as a probable carcinogen.

Short sleep predicts a shorter life โ€“ it predicts all cause mortality.'

We've revised our page on why you should #DeleteFacebook -- go have a look, and share it with all of the folks you know who need to take control of their computing and break free of the unethical power of SaaSS and nonfree software! https://u.fsf.org/2qz

@polyplacophora @farlopito @fdroidorg Hi! Thank you for supporting us with a paid account. It means a lot. The process of publishing our app on F-droid has already started. We need to make a few steps before doing this. In the next couple of months it should be done. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Use pre-paid plans and change SIM cards often.

Use LineageOS without Google Play services.

Turn off your phone and put it in a Faraday bag when you don't need it.

Start leaving your phone at home more often. It's more freeing.

You just described my last few work weeks. Do you have a method you use for compartmentalising? I've found the Pomodoro Technique helpful (when one abides by it.)
