Capitalist propagandists tell us that, w/o a profit motive or fear of poverty, no one will do any work and society will collapse.

The Helene recovery work in WNC refutes that, definitively. Everyone's first reaction was who needs what and how do we get it to them?

As soon as people in crisis get safe they turn around and start working to get other people safe. The Capitalists talk a lot about human nature. This impulse to care for eachother and share what we have, that is actual human nature.

California — which is looking for #H5N1 #birdflu in dairy herds — jumps to 82 confirmed herds today, up 26 from the last #USDA update. That makes it the top state affected, though to be clear, many other states appear not to be looking.
The cumulative national total is 282 herds in 14 states.

"DeSantis said Sunday that while it remains to be seen just where Milton will strike, it’s clear that Florida is going to be hit hard — 'I don’t think there’s any scenario where we don’t have major impacts at this point.'"

Amazingly, DeSantis is relying on scientists' forecasts, even after he banned the mere mention of climate change in Florida's laws. And he convened a grand jury with the purpose of imprisoning scientists who develop vaccines.

Reminder that Project 2025 would essentially ban unions for public service workers (pg. 82), let bosses avoid overtime pay (pg. 592), make it easier for private companies to decertify unions (pg. 603) and allow states to opt out of federal labor laws (pg. 605).

Meanwhile, the $7.25/hr fed. minimum wage hasn't budged in 15 years and the tipped min. wage has been $2.13/hr since 1991.

This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.

@cobalt @vickyveritas Here in Colorado we are learning that the shade provided by solar panels is actually good for agricultural endeavors. "Agrivoltaics is the co-location of agriculture and solar energy infrastructure whereby the microclimates created by the solar panels provide benefits to the vegetation or animals beneath and around them." jackssolargarden.com/

Oklahoma’s superintendent of public instruction, Ryan Walters, put out a two-week turnaround RFP for Bibles for schools that looks like an attempt to buy the “Trump Bible.”

At the same time, in well over a year, Walters has failed to purchase emergency inhalers for schools. lawdork.com/p/oklahoma-ryan-wa

"Glenn Kessler of the Washington Post did not leave the story there. “Trump has a habit of assuming other politicians act in the same way as he would,” Kessler wrote. So he looked into why Trump would have accused Biden “of raiding the FEMA disaster fund to handle undocumented migrants. It turns out that’s because he did this.”
In the middle of hurricane season in 2019, Kessler explains, Trump took $155 million from the FEMA disaster fund and redirected it to pay for detention space and temporary hearing locations for immigrants seeking asylum. “No, #Biden didn’t take FEMA relief money to use on migrants, but #Trump did.”

FEMA has collected a list of nasty rumors being spread about their efforts to provide hurricane relief:
fema.gov/disaster/current/hurr

No, #Biden didn't take FEMA relief money to use on migrants — but #Trump did.

"Even though Trump was once president, he still appears to have little clue about the appropriations process. What's even richer is that when he was president, he did exactly what he claims Biden did — take money from FEMA’s disaster fund to fund migrant programs at the southern border." washingtonpost.com/politics/20

As Trump lied that Biden is using FEMA $ to "give it to their illegal immigrants that they want to have vote for them," Musk actually posted “Yes, they are literally using YOUR tax dollars to import voters and disenfranchise you! It is happening right in front of your eyes. And FEMA used up its budget ferrying illegals into the country instead of saving American lives. Treason.”

They're trying to incite violence with these lies. #terrorism #disinformation heathercoxrichardson.substack.

"MAGA Republicans are now lying about the federal response to Hurricane Helene in much the same way they lied about Haitian migrants bringing chaos and disease to Springfield, Ohio. Both disinformation efforts are flat-out lies, and both are designed to demonize immigrants."
