According to the Courier-Journal he was arrested, charged with first-degree wanton endangerment and carrying a concealed deadly weapon. I’m not in any way, shape, or form condoning his actions etc. just following up with context. (And yes, whatever about whatever but permit-less concealed carry is an off the charts bad idea)

RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.

When I was at one of my lowest (mental) points in life, I couldn't get out of bed some days. I had no energy or motivation and was barely getting by. I had therapy once per week, and on this particular week I didn’t have much to ‘bring’ to the session. He asked how my week was and I really had nothing to say. “What are you struggling with?” he asked.

I gestured around me and said “I dunno man. Life.” Not satisfied with my answer, he said “No, what exactly are you worried about right now? What feels overwhelming? When you go home after this session, what issue will be staring at you?”

I knew the answer, but it was so ridiculous that I didn‘t want to say it.

I wanted to have something more substantial. Something more profound.

But I didn’t.

So I told him, “Honestly? The dishes. It's stupid, I know, but the more I look at them the more I CAN’T do them because I'll have to scrub them before I put them in the dishwasher, because the dishwasher sucks, and I just can’t stand and scrub the dishes” I felt like an idiot even saying it.

What kind of grown ass woman is undone by a stack of dishes? There are people out there with
actual problems, and I'm whining to my therapist about dishes?

But my therapist nodded in understanding and then said:

“RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE.”

I began to tell him that you're not supposed to, but he stopped me.

“Why the hell aren’t you supposed to? If you don’t want to scrub the dishes and your dishwasher sucks, run it twice. Run it three times, who cares?! Rules do not exist, so stop giving yourself rules."

It blew my mind in a way that I don’t think I can properly express.

That day, I went home and tossed my smelly dishes haphazardly into the dishwasher and ran it three times. I felt like I had conquered a dragon.

The next day, I took a shower lying down.

A few days later, I folded my laundry and put them wherever the heck they fit.

There were no longer arbitrary rules I had to follow, and it gave me the freedom to make accomplishments again.

Now that I'm in a healthier place, I rinse off my dishes and put them in the dishwasher properly. I shower standing up. I sort my laundry.

But at a time when living was a struggle instead of a blessing, I learned an incredibly important lesson:

THERE ARE NO RULES. RUN THE DISHWASHER TWICE!!!

Grief

There are many worst parts to losing a loved one, but one of them is when someone else tells you a story and you irrepressibly want to share it with the deceased.

Like, there’s this momentary blink, every time, where you cycle through the ways of getting in touch and concede that none of them will work. You feel so, so powerless.

IDK man.

It looks like Trump may be charged with something-- there may be some accountability-- but if you follow the other side of the justice system, the one you or I might face if we got swept up somehow the contrast is enough to make you wanna throw things.

A teen. A child. Spent two years in an adult jail waiting for a trial because he maybe (possibly, who knows) stole at $70 backpack.

Two years. He committed suicide. It was murder.

What if Hunter’s laptop and Jared’s billions are all part of the same story of a handful of petro states trying to end American democracy?

@Gina Nice job! It does what you need it to do in the space you need it to fit into!

my kid just called balogna a hot dog pancake and i’ll never be the same

Technically, what we call uppercase letters are termed "majuscule" and lowercase letters are termed "minuscule". Since common manual movable type typesetting stations usually kept the more frequently used type in a case closer to the user, and the less frequently used type in a different case at a higher level farther from the user, the terms upper case and lower case came into common usage.

Earth science fail! I always thought clothes dryers blew hot air because the warmer temperatures made the water in *the clothes* evaporate faster.🤦🏿‍♂️

I never even thought about it.

Warmer air can hold so much more water than cooler air. So warming *the air* puts it further away from its maximum saturation point for evaporation, which speeds up the drying. Clothes temperature has little to do with it.

Just realizing this after reading some climate change / wet bulb temperature / flooding stuff.

Thanks Ken, this was really important to hear. I really appreciate any effort to de stigmatize mental illness and suicide. It’s such a crappy set of diseases.

It falls to the survivors of depression to talk to the sufferers — to convince them to ask for help.

Hey European friends who use tools and do building, repairs, DIY – are Robertson screws common in your area?

Are Robertson screwdrivers common in European toolboxes?

In Canada I suspect that 99% of people who have tools would have Robertson screwdrivers in their toolbox. At least the red & green (#2, #1) sizes. The more intrepid will have the yellow and black (#0, #3) sizes too.

Poll to follow…

As the song on the radio played, Arnold couldn’t help but wonder if this poor Taylor Swift girl would ever find true happiness. He made a mental note to send her one of his tennis balls when he got home.

No, academics do not "forget" to answer emails. They remember and feel bad about them, the guilt slowly building up, until the only way out is to fake their own death and move far, far away under a different identity to build a new life, a better one, with inbox zero and no shame

Anyways, I owe you an email.

When I tell you that your favorite VCs sit around in chat rooms with nazis, you think I'm joking. 🤷🏿‍♂️

Woke means Black. It's a Black saying.

Passing a law called "Stop woke" or saying "I'm anti-woke!" is equivalent to passing a law called "anti-Shabat Shalom" or "anti-Ni-Hao," but then trying to claim that you are not anti-semitic or sinophobic. It makes no sense.

Most of these VCs, writers, and politicians are irredeemably racist, and hate you on a visceral level.

There are many posts about Bram today. I'm "favoriting" every one I see. If you wouldn't mind indulging me while I add yet another, here's a piece by Bram that I found very interesting.

@9Lukas5

Happy to help, I find that parsing all the different ways a v6 address can be written to be really confusing
