This video from Corridor Crew is pretty amazing. They re-create the nearly perfect compositing from the penguin dance sequence in Mary Poppins, which was achieved using high intensity sodium vapor lights and a very custom beam splitter, instead of a blue or green screen. It truly feels like a lost art rediscovered. When the matted footage just perfectly drops in I gasped haha m.youtube.com/watch?v=UQuIVsNz

Happy April Fool's Day, reposting this old classic is all I got, hope you have a good one and nobody does something shitty as a "joke"

what's your favourite way to simplify your life with git? mostly interested in slightly unusual tricks like:

- never using the stash, just creating temporary branches instead
- deleting your `main` branch so that you can never accidentally commit to it

Nothing more motivating than a royalty statement with a £0 balance 😓

If you're a curious human, please consider buying a copy of my book, Sticky. It's the best thing I've ever written! 🦎

• You can find on all the usual spots - and in store - in hardback and/or paperback.
• It's available as an eBook (Kindle & Kobo)
• And if you like to listen to your science - delivered in an Irish accent - it's also on audiobook (Amazon only) with me narrating it.

Thanks in advance! #scicomm #science #author

MAGAs are labeling DEI as "Didn't Earn It," which is wild because in reality, generating historic wealth through 2 billion acres of stolen land from Native Americans, enslaving Black people for 300 years, banning Asian immigration until 1965, & banning women from financial access til 1974 — all without paying a single red cent in reparations or restitution — is the living breathing example not earning it.

I have to admit that I was very hesitant to add a dog to our family. Well over a year ago, when my husband saw Summer available on the internet, he was fresh out of the hospital and had been fighting one type of cancer or another. He was weak and tired. I had recently retired to help him.
It seemed like it wasn't a good idea to bring a major project home. Not to mention, I had never owned a dog.
It was also hard to say no to my husband, who had gone through so much. It was just as hard to say no to a puppy nobody wanted.
So I caved, and the rest is history.
I followed my heart and drove hundreds of miles to bring Summer home. It turns out that is the best part of me to follow.
Good morning, Mastodon.

@NorcalGma2 @KingShawn My daughter and I were rescued by our dog Domino after my wife passed away. He is truly our guardian angel, I’m happy to hear that Summer got a chance to rescue you all too

I served my country in uniform for twenty years. My coffin will be draped by the American flag. I'm tired of folks calling themselves 'patriots', and co-opting our flag, to show allegiance to Trump.

The real 'patriots' are those that fight fascism at home and abroad.

If you find yourself a smart person in an industry of smart people you may not know how to stand out from the crowd and get noticed; may I suggest you try kindness?

People remember kindness more than they remember smart anyway.

Make people feel appreciated and heard.

@breadandcircuses there's that old dorothy parker quote: "If you want to know what God thinks of money, just look at the people he gave it to."

a good corollary is, if you want to know what kind of system capitalism is, just look at the sociopaths it elevates to power. is there any other system of human self-organization that so reliably seats absolute ghouls at the top of its hierarchy?

@JW @jeanettepizzurro Very sorry for your loss, Lemmy looks like he a great boy
