At some point we need to ask ourselves if we’re still ok with billions of our tax money going to police departments that only seem to be able to catch mass murderers after they’ve mowed us down, and who are themselves an institutionalized type of mass murderers.

Back on the birdsite, a few years ago, a young local Black man once asked his white followers whether they'd ever had any positive experiences with the police. I don't know what he was expecting, but almost no one had. They didn't report much violence, but lots of trying to report crimes & being disbelieved, rude/aggressive behaviour from officers, or refusal to help.

My take-home from that thread: the police are an institution that in its current state isn't even working for most white people.

Lise Meitner’s brilliance led to the discovery of nuclear fission. But her long time collaborator Otto Hahn, was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry w/o her in 1944, even though she had given the first theoretical explanation.
