Around the edges tweaks like bodycams won't cut it. We need to fix the system if we want to reduce police violence. I explain how here: https://brianklaas.substack.com/p/how-to-reduce-police-violence
Good morning . Well you won't hear this coming from me very often, but props to Mika Brzezinski and Morning Joe, for calling out the ridiculous conspiracy theories, and the people who advanced them, about Paul Pelosi's attack. With photos. I have never seen MSNBC do this before. If we knew how to insist on anything, we should be insisting on the same treatment from local media across the country. I'm so sick of this shit. Everyone should be.
Corporate profits have contributed disproportionately to inflation.
Over half of this increase (53.9%) in overall prices in the nonfinancial corporate sector are due to fatter profit margins, with labor costs contributing less than 8% of this increase.

Today in 1932, the RCMP surround Albert "The Mad Trapper" Johnson after following him for days.
In the gunfight, Constable Edgar Millen is shot & killed. The RCMP retreat & Johnson goes deeper into the wilderness.

“So begins the destruction of higher education in Florida. Literally no university or college will have academic freedom under DeSantis.”
Rep. Anna V. Eskamani
DeSantis is replacing existing board members, faculty and administrators, with his right-wing, anti-diversity, anti-equity, anti-inclusion loyalists.

Gosh. I'm so happy for the assholes who made millions betting on the near-elimination of competition in the Canadian telecoms industry. https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/dozen-hedge-funds-eye-bonanza-110154892.html
At some point we need to ask ourselves if we’re still ok with billions of our tax money going to police departments that only seem to be able to catch mass murderers after they’ve mowed us down, and who are themselves an institutionalized type of mass murderers.

I would have named them Jasonus Kenneyae and Danieliae Smithus. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/archaic-primates-southern-alberta-1.6729073
Back on the birdsite, a few years ago, a young local Black man once asked his white followers whether they'd ever had any positive experiences with the police. I don't know what he was expecting, but almost no one had. They didn't report much violence, but lots of trying to report crimes & being disbelieved, rude/aggressive behaviour from officers, or refusal to help.
My take-home from that thread: the police are an institution that in its current state isn't even working for most white people.
Friendly reminder that we don't accept teacher brutality or doctor brutality or athlete brutality or judge brutality or mail carrier brutality or firefighter brutality or farmer brutality or cashier brutality or author brutality or pilot brutality or chef brutality or carpenter brutality or engineer brutality or lawyer brutality or accountant brutality or mechanic brutality or researcher brutality or nurse brutality or crossing guard brutality or dentist brutality or painter brutality.
Since #Canada was founded in 1867, there have been 28 mass shootings.
The United States has had 40...since Jan. 1, 2023.
