I'm thrilled that the one and only @melissacoenraad is your @ontariondp candidate in #KanataCarleton.

Melissa's a health care hero, a mom and a passionate local voice

She'll stand up for you & fight for the public services that make for strong & caring communities. #onpoli

So what happens now? Guidance counselors start teaching classes on how to "trick" college admissions officers into thinking a child's essay about how race has affected them, wasn't actually about race at all? This is all so fucking bizarre.

Just a casual reminder that in 1869 it was decided to have 9 Supreme Court justices because there were 9 Circuit Courts.

Now there are 13 Circuit Courts. So what exactly are we waiting for?

My research student and I did an analysis of lawsuits in Canada challenging COVID-19 vaccine mandates on a variety of grounds - Charter, labour law, human rights legislation. Finding: not a single one was successful.

took my son through san francisco during pride week and am appalled by what we saw. dark suits worn without ties, suit jackets worn with jeans, low-rise slim-fit chinos, dress sneakers, oxford shoes in casual outfits, polos with "business backpacks," a preponderance of tan shoes

Toronto really should either pass congestion pricing or ban cars on streetcar routes. One selfish driver turning and blocking the intersection, is stalling this many people on the streetcar.

I've seen more cool #photos on #Mastodon in about a month than I have on #Twitter since I've been there, despite hollowing fewer people. It seems to have a lot to do with the #boosting culture here on Mastodon. #photography

Open your window today and take no more than one big breath, close the window and then understand: if you vote "Conservative" this is the world you chose and you're choosing even worse for the little ones in your life. It's simply not refutable. It's on you. Nobody else. Own it.

Still seeing lots of election signs. Candidates have until tomorrow to remove them, then the fines start. (Call 311 to report.)

I think one think we might take from this election is that signs made no difference in the outcome, and were not any kind of indication of candidate strength. :gongemoji:

Time to end the practice of putting up election signs?

At least limit them to only 1 per residential address if you really want one. None on public streets or commercial addresses.

@ska

The revolution is just hyperbole. I think they are just scared of the 1950s tax rates coming back, unions matter and universal health care.

It's been such a wonderful time for some folks over the past few decades, just robbing out all the paving stones and copper pipes in everything that makes a country function.

Chrislhayes did a long segment on how Bidenomics are roaring, but he doesn't seem to get credit for any of it. Now he should do a segment on how most local TV and radio news covers those same Bidenomics. Mystery solved.

Note: he's unlikely to do this.

@adrianmorrow On a random Tuesday in February, I did an audit of Postmedia's broadsheets to compare original vs. syndicated content and found the Regina Leader-Post contained a *single* article that was actually unique to the paper. (The Saskatoon StarPhoenix had two.)

When conservative mayor Mel Lastman left a mess, NDP mayor David Miller cleaned it up and left a surplus and a fully funded transit plan

But a couple Conservatives mayors later…

Where did the crisis come from TorStar? From the shit mayor and from people like the candidate you backed.

Torontonians, please go out and vote. Remember what happened on the provincial level when people stayed at home.

@gemelliz

Hey #Toronto, remember, Doug Ford's nightmare candidate is Olivia Chow.

Vote #OliviaChow, the smartest, best experienced, most competent leader for Toronto. The Mayor that Toronto needs right now.

(And you get to stick it to DoFo)

And vote dammit!

🧵 Toronto friends, time for some serious talk.

Monday, I want you to vote.

Toronto will select a new mayor Monday. Even though it usually has the lowest voter turnout, city government touches our lives much more than provincial or federal does - water, garbage, sidewalks, streets, TTC, fire fighting, EMS, daycares, schools - so you really should take the opportunity to have your say.

Prigozhin "shot down Putin’s central main pretexts for invading Ukraine, declaring that Russia faced no extraordinary security threat from Ukraine. He said that Russian military officials had deceived Putin into going to war.

The war, he claimed, was designed by Russian officials and oligarchs who had plundered two separatist regions of Donbas for years, but grew greedy and wanted to plunder all of Ukraine"
