@StillIRise1963 , it's advertising. I can't remember the name of the guy who invented the concept, of creating desires for people, rather than meeting needs of the people. Let me hit google before going further...
@StillIRise1963 , I think it starts with Wilhelm Wundt and some of his students, most notably Walter Dill Scott. These guys figured out how to manipulate folks into buying desires, rather than needs. It's fascinating how easily we all fall for it. There is another name right on the tip of my tongue.... but it eludes me for now.
But yes, it is also ridiculous.
