@agilealliance

You're doing a conference in Florida?

You truly represent the apotheosis of "Agile".

For reals, yo.

You're cool with your 3,000 person venue where no one who isn't a cishet white salesperson/john man is welcome?

Jesus fucking Christ.

I was already estranged, I freely admit it, But this is beyond the pale.

Fuck the Agile fucking Alliance. They aren't what we wanted, they never have been.

@agilealliance I don't give a fuck about your sunk fucking cost.

Apologize, and eat the cost.

You're committing a sin you'll never come back from.

Your one chance, and it's slim, is to just admit that you made a mistake, ask for forgiveness, and move forward.

@agilealliance My trans friends will not go to Florida, not cuz they're mad, cuz they're at risk of their lives. My Black friends won't go to Florida, not cuz they're mad, cuz they're at risk of their lives. My gay and lesbian friends won't go to Florida, not cuz they're mad, cuz they're at risk for their lives.

Go broke, walking away, go broke. But go broke *proud* that you cared more for humans than for a venue-deposit.

@GeePawHill

What about florida makes it so exceptionally dangerous for them? Not that I'm disagreeing with you, just wondering what law or whatever this is in reference to.

@agilealliance

@freemo @agilealliance Well, while you been sharing your range-pictures, Florida has been outlawing abortion, outlawing being gay, and outlawing teaching young people about the history of our country.

@GeePawHill

Not sure what my range-pictures have to do with that? Seems a very odd opening statement.

All those things sound quite concerning. What are the punishments for being gay and teaching a history class? Are they severe (though any punishment is pretty concerning).

@agilealliance

@freemo @GeePawHill @agilealliance Are you sealioning or asking someone else to do your research for you? Certainly if you are Trans you can no longer get medical support. If you are a woman who needs an abortion you can't get that. It's a third class felony to use any book that hasn't been approved by the State in your class. You can't answer questions about gender, sexuality or anything like that in class. So are you trolling or merely profoundly ignorant?

@ariaflame

I am neither sealioning or asking someone to do my research for me. I am engaging in a respectful discussion. A post was made saying gay/trans cant go there. I asked for why you feel that is the case, that is not sealioning nor asking you or anyone to do research.

I am not trolling, nor "profoundly ignorant", not everyone keeps tabs on the day to day happenings in Florida... but congratulations on being rude to someone who is genuinely curious about your opinion, and having a desire to support you in your concerns. Quite the self-defeating approach you have going there.

@GeePawHill @agilealliance

@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , semi impartial observer here (you can decide after my post). Just a couple days ago I had a very similar experience, and I was fairly sure the guy was just being a dick. The same topic, florida book banning. I found the questions to be intentionally obtuse to the point of being harassing. I feel fairly sure that there was miscommunication with my conversation, and there is similar with yours. As I read this exchange, I am reexamining my conversation with different eyes.

@JonKramer

I have no doubt there is miscommunication and people are assuming intent behind my questions that dont exist. I even understand those misunderstandings happen because as I stated earlier it is not uncommon for people to discuss in bad faith... However I have consistently explicitly made it clear that was not the case and that this is good-faith. I was polite, thanked them when i got an answer and just moved on (at least until the toxic nightmare of a debate kicked off in meta-land).

@ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance

@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , I don't doubt your intentions. I have watched your interactions for about 8 months now, since I joined this instance. I doubt MY observations of another person a few days back, someone I did not know, who I assumed was arguing without good faith, to 'win the internet'. The similarities were, looking at the two conversations, blatant. I am questioning now, based on your conversation, if I was too quick to judge. Second guessing myself. It seemed to me that everyone should be directly aware of the book bannings, the anti trans legislation, etc, that states like Florida are imposing, and how miserable the state is becoming. This discussion defused my opinion of a guy who I pretty much KNEW was sealioning me.

So, I am attempting to return the favor.

@JonKramer

Gotcha, thats fair.

Yea I have been completely ignorant of what has been going on in Florida mostly because in israel, where I was stuck for 2 years, the focus was on other things, mainly Palestinian conflict.

People in the USA have a tendency to assume everyone knows whats going on. Truth is most of the world most of the time just rolls their eyes at us and doesnt give it much attention.

@ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance

@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , Ya, I get that. For being the creators of the internet, Americans seem to be the most insulated from the best benefits of the system. The existence of reality. I blame a lack of classes on critical thinking... But, this attitude of mine is bad too, because then I assume everywhere else in the world is BETTER informed....

@JonKramer

The problem isnt the internet, americans are generally just as insufferable in person. Being in america is like being in a huge insane asylum but where no one actually realizes it because it is so pervasive no one realizes just how ill they are.

It is very draining being around americans.

@ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance

@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , I love it when someone becomes self aware of what you noticed... Ya, we are, as a nation, nuts.

@JonKramer

I often remark on this when it comes to the latest tendency of increasing autism diagnosis... while im sure a great deal of autism is legitimate I think it is largely overinflated int he USA. The people labeled as autistic for not "fitting in" or "missing social clues" are really the health well rounded people and its everyone else who is toxic and constantly offended.. so it creates this weird dynamic where th e"norm" is having a social disorder and the healthy people are seen as the "unhealthy" and get mislabeled as autistic.

@ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance

@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , I really have to think about this post.... It's an interesting observation you have made, and my 1st thought was to dismiss it. But I live in the land of the blind, and the one-eyed kid would be king.... And obviously, to me, insane.

@JonKramer

I actually realized it when I had an in depth conversation with a recently diagnosed Autistic person... They listed all the examples of failed human interactions that they described to their psychiatrist and ultimately the line of thinking that lead to the diagnosis. Well this person used to live int he netherlands and I pointed out how I didnt think they would have had any of those examples happen in the netherlands and asked them to think back to when they lived there and they realized that all their social difficulties were non existent in the netherlands... They quickly shifted from fully believing they were autistic to convinced they weren't since all the diagnosis criteria only ever manifested int he USA... since that interaction I have become convinced this is a common mode of misdiagnosis in the USA.

@ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance

@freemo @ariaflame @GeePawHill @agilealliance , that's a conversation I couldn't understand, because I lack the experience of being in the Netherlands long enough to be able to understand the change in environment. But I am fully aware of my limitation, in a theoretical way. To turn this back a bit, I was NOT capable of understanding the theoretical limitations that other English speakers wouldn't know about the dangers of Florida to education, and gay folks.... I will have to work on that.

@JonKramer

The important part is self reflection, no one is perfect. But yea living in other countries opens you up to a lot of blind spots for sure.
