A federal indictment of Trump for inciting an insurrection on Jan 6th should be all but certain after a bipartisan Congressional committee layed out a comprehensive case against him and referred the evidence to the Dept of Justice, but after his investigation Special Counsel Jack Smith will likely refer the final determination back to AG Garland who could choose to hold his decision in abeyance till after 2024, claiming the DOJ doesn't wish to interfere with the election process. Hopefully not.

@YouGiveMeFever , have almost no hope that justice will not be delayed, with the goal to avoid it entirely.

@LeaBug private schools have different standards. I don't think they want racist kids, but an education with clear objectives in learning. Schools are subject to mission creep like most organizations, and private schools address this with contracts that they are supposed to adhere to. The parents might have a valid argument here. How can a school test for "diversity" as they test for geometry or spelling?

@freemo I used to have an advertisement from about 1982, advertising a 100 meg hd, on sale for $17,000. I had a doctor converting all her patients' records to CD in about 1992, who was so proud to show off her $20K CD burner... it's amazing how much has changed. The MOSFET has to be the most influential invention of the 20th century.

@freemo I remember when 1 meg was a lot. When 100 megs was a huge hard drive...

@Ratman , and doing unspeakable things with my nether regions. But you wish you didn't get a mental picture of THAT!

Thoughtful and therefore ultimately inconclusive article by @AlgisValiunis in the New Atlantic about why the US dropped atomic bombs on Japan, and about the stories we and historians tell ourselves about that. An intensely morally uncomfortable read, which I mean as praise. thenewatlantis.com/publication

I can't find who shared this to boost their post, but this should be read. I think it is light on the history of Japan suing for peace starting in April, trying to get the Soviets to mediate. Japan wasn't in lockstep on a path to suicide, like this article implies, and I feel the timing of the bombs was to allow Soviet observers to see the devastation themselves. But, here is the article:

@dell The funny part is thinking he was ever 'libertarian'.

@w7voa , I highly doubt that the GOP house will investigate why trump capitulated in Afghanistan.

@toxtethogrady @Caledonia @georgetakei , "...and people in politics nationally"

Two groups, that sometimes, but rarely, overlap.

@toxtethogrady @Caledonia @georgetakei , and, it got Comey fired, because trump didn't trust him to not turn on him.

@Caledonia @toxtethogrady @georgetakei , the law is pretty clear, that no one is above the law. In practice, we have a caste system, and trump is in the caste that the law doesn't touch, at least criminally. This is pretty much limited to the ultra rich, and people in politics nationally. Our current investigations of him are extended every time something new is found out, and will be until he dies of old age.

@w7voa it is the Post, and they don't deserve to share our air, but still, DUMB move to chase those guys with a machete. She just ended her life as she knew it, and I doubt her lawsuit will go forward when the cops can show beyond a shadow of doubt she is a credible threat to safety.
