Clarence Thomas twice spoke at the Koch brothers’ annual fundraising retreat. A sitting Supreme Court justice is actually fundraising for a partisan organization that routinely brings cases before the Supreme Court, which he routinely rules in favor of. Naturally he has not disclosed this. propublica.org/article/clarenc

@xtaldave The only thing that can stop Elno now is a group of pissed off villagers with torches and pitchforks

@ct_bergstrom To be fair, I swear "try different algorithms until we get a result we like" is a fairly common statistical practice...

@ct_bergstrom When this has happened to me, it's because some other reviewer asked for a sizable change and they want all reviewers to approve the change.

The big problem I've started having is getting to the point where I have a problem, the author disagrees and refuses to make changes, and the editor keeps sending our correspondence back and forth to the point where there's no progress in discussion. It's gotten to the point where I have to tell the editor "I don't want to see this again, you have to make a decision."

@AmyPetty Absolutely. It was a must-see in a theater because of the sound

Final day of my trip was supposed to be uneventful. California had different ideas. Got caught in the middle of a flash flood in the desert. After a couple of hours, we were able to turn around and get out. Then caught a dust storm outside of Palm Springs. Finally got in safe and sound, getting settled into the apartment.

Last day of our cross-country sojourn to my sabbatical in the Jones Lab: the Grand Canyon! Wasn't able to catch sunset over the canyon due to some bad advice, but the super moon, cloud cover and lightning gave us a fabulous light show. Tomorrow, our new home for the next six months!

Hiked to Devil's Bridge this morning. I got vertigo 3/4 of the way up the last climb, but my wife made it all the way. Absolutely gorgeous hike. Tomorrow, the Grand Canyon!

Disgusting behavior in the legal profession, Techdirt's take

"Over and over again, Wright seems to think that his clearly admitted to pattern of behavior to seek out his female students and start sexual relationships with them was solely the result of consensual adults agreeing to have a relationship, with no recognition of the power indifference, and the influence both of them knew he had over their future careers.

Day 3 of my cross-country trip: hiking at Petrified Forest National Park and staying in Sedona. Absolutely amazing!

@AmyPetty Six months at UC San Diego, then six months at my company in Half Moon Bay.

Day 2 of my cross-country trip to start my year -long sabbatical. Today, lunch in Amarillo Texas! Hope to make Albuquerque by tonight.

The windmill farms across Oklahoma and North Texas are amazing. Those things look so delicate and elegant.
