So, it would seem that boosting liberally is much more of a standard practice here on than retweeting is on ?

Over there, someone who retweeted too much tended to be annoying. But since that's the only way to discover non-followed posts here, it seems to be more accepted. Do I have that right?

Boosting posts allows other people to see what you see. Favoriting or Bookmarking a post doesn't boost it to the top of the feed.

@LouisIngenthron pretty much. There's no algorithms here, so discovery has to be done the old fashioned way. Boost, favourite and comment away. At some point you may reach a feed you'll want to prune down, but it's healthy for the network for you to help spread content.

@LouisIngenthron You can go to Local and see all the posts on your server or Federated to see all post from your server and any server that is linked to your server. You can also search hashtags, but not text.
I've heard some people configuring their feed not to display boosted toots.
