"Someday, #MexicanWolves and northern Rockies wolves will meet; ..." Anderson said. "They're worried about swamping their genes with the northern species, but at the same time they're not doing enough for the genetics down here to ensure the health and viability of the current population."
That's right. All this whinging about genetic vulnerability is the fault of the agencies!! #GoAsha
We were depressed, then dismayed, and now straight up mad. Why on earth did they insist on removing her? #GoAsha #WILDlife
“We have to let wolves be wolves and this heavy-handed management that tries to force them into certain areas and keep them in specific places is not going to work in the long term if we are really hoping to recover this population,” she said.
"Dismayed" is the media-friendly word for how we're feeling about this capture. They couldn't let #Asha the wandering #MexicanWolf go free, it seems. Had to chase her with a helicopter and drop her in captivity.
Nowhere to run to. No place to hide.

Pretty much ready to fly. Need to install the recovery gear and go. 5.25" diameter, 47" long Doorknob. 38mm motor mount. Planning I180 for the first flight. #rocketry #rockets #modelrockets #highpowerrocketry
@MasterNinjaTS here's my favorite. Some others can be found here (https://www.astrobin.com/users/observatoryj/) and here (https://www.astrobin.com/users/merlin_four/)
@amadorhippie that's awesome!
@MasterNinjaTS here's another. Not as technically good as the nebula, but still pretty darn cool #astronomy #astrophotography
@amadorhippie I'd love to see any shots that you might have. I used to rent a semi-rural home that offered a very faint view of the galactic center and I never tired of it. It's a shame that future generations may not get to easily experience it.
@carlysagan Not doing anything is part of the problem. The tech majors don't seem interested in putting out products or capabilities that add much value. How about applying AI and software talent to real world pressing problems instead of Second Life 2.0.
Having been on the receiving end, news about layoffs always gets my attention. Here's a short, insightful interview that discusses how layoffs don't solve a company's problems, hurts people, and that companies already know this because it's been extensively studied.

Happy National DJ Day to one of the coolest, @carlysagan
"This water is hard."
Our local swans returned this morning just as tiny parts of the lake opened up (WTF, it's January). #birds
One more thing on its way to becoming a privilege for the few.

Forgive us for another post about Asha (#GoAsha!), but reading this quote from our deputy director this morning reminded us how much work there is to do in deconstructing the patriarchal management of wildlife.
"KRQE News 13 spoke with Anderson about a key issue for the wolf: finding a mate. “I think if that’s what she wants, and she’s not finding it, she’ll go back to where the other wolves are,” Anderson says. “And we should let her sort of make that decision.”"
