The onboard camera views from Percy's landing never disappoint.
It's 2023. We still prioritize private livestock profits in public land wildlife habitat. That's wrong for so many reasons, including the biggest (terrestrial) one of them all (in the lower 48):
"What’s more, they remain persecuted. They are often killed in response to conflicts with livestock released to graze in their core habitat."
Super Bowl day means you're stuck with a Large Dish post from me. This time it's the NRAO's Very Long Baseline Array. Ten 25m dishes across CONUS, Hawaii, and St. Croix which combine through the magic of interferometry to work as a dish that's approximately 8000km in diameter.
Below is the Owens Valley antenna in California.

>> Critics argue digging for lithium poses the same ecological threats as mining for any other mineral or metal in the biggest gold-mining state in the U.S. They say efforts to downplay potential environmental and cultural impacts amount to “greenwashing.” <<

Approaching a gallon of sap per tap on this first run of a very early start. I have not seen my trees take off like this so early. My north slope sugar maples aren't quite awake yet, but it looked like they're getting going when I pumped out the barrel this afternoon. Forecast is also looking good to keep going nicely for a while. Almost too warm in the middle of the month. #maplesyrup

@MasterNinjaTS I also went to see the monarch butterflies in Mexico right before covid (writer mentions they went). It is still glorious but what she doesn’t mention is that the locals are cutting down the forest that brings the butterflies in the first place & that is clearly evident when you go and is the biggest problem. Why do they cut the forest? Animal agriculture.
@MasterNinjaTS if Starlink blocks out all stars, that will also distrupt insects- many insects still use starlight to navigate. I wonder how big light pollution plays in the decline of insects?
