For #BlackHistoryMonth, let's remember Bayard Rustin.
The civil rights leader, when he is remembered at all these days, is remembered for brilliantly organizing the 1963 March on Washington.
Not everyone appreciated his pioneering approach to intersectionality - and as a gay man, he was sometimes seen as a liability.
His biographer makes a case for Rustin as the signature radical voice during the 20th century

@XanIndigo I do not like being perceived, but this makes me feel seen
Quick note, for anyone who finds it helpful:
Self-care can sometimes morph into "self-improvement."
The former is crucial. The latter is a big bucket of shame and judgement, usually filled with someone else's crap.
(Yes, really. It might look like your crap, but I bet you a quarter it isn't.)
While you might want to work on some better habits, *you* are just fine. What you do is not the same as who you are.
So dump that bucket. And take the nap if you need it.
What a disgrace the "nonprofit" College Board has made of itself -- "strips down" the Advanced Placement program in African American Studies to satisfy racist critics. (AP courses are a BILLION-dollar revenue item for this outfit...)

@coffeepine @just_alex @Lowie There's a time for rolling, and a time to refrain from rolling; a time for baking, and a time for ... minor amounts of planning to prevent panicked putting out of fires at inauspicious moments ...
New Pentagon Rules Keep Many Military Court Records Secret
--
Despite a 2016 law requiring transparency, the Defense Department is limiting public access to court records in the military justice system. A recent ProPublica lawsuit appears to have spurred the new Pentagon guidance.
Meanwhile, Ron DeSantis in Florida is not going to model legislation route. He is blazing a unique trail of unbridled fascism, including disenfranchisement of voters, takeover of state universities by hand-picked right wing cronies, including Christopher Rufo (the liar who started the critical race theory panic), banning of Black history, and the complete censorship of all non-curriculum reading material from every K-12 classroom in the state.
NBC: #FBI searching Biden’s Delaware beach house amid classified #document investigation.
Biden: 3 properties searched by FBI
Donald Trump: one, and just partially
Et tu, Mike Pence?
Or to put it another way:
Joe Biden: 100% of his properties searched by FBI
Donald #Trump: parts of 16% of his US-based properties, not including those held by the kids
Whenever you praise declining birth rates, you are effectively ignoring the hoarding of wealth and resources, the poison that capitalism and imperialism continue to dump into our harbors and our drinking water. Those are the problem.
When you praise declining birth rates, you are advocating for a restriction. And we know very well that whenever you restrict anyone from doing anything, you make it OK for the rich to do it and it comes down on the poor. Any time you dabble in eugenics, it affects the poor, people of color, disabled and neurodivergent communities, queer people.
That's where declining birth rates always lead, because the marginalized will always be the undesirables before we point the spotlight on the problem: cis white people with wealth, and the systems that protect them from the consequences of their actions.
I don't want to talk about Black history yet. I want to talk about why if you grew up in the North or West, your high school history book likely talked about the "Articles of Secession,"
but if you grew up in the South, those parts are removed and lied about.🙂🙃
Disinformation.
You can literally go and read the "Declaration of Causes of Seceding States," primary documents written by confederates themselves, on why they are Seceding.

Some schools refuse to teach this.
People that got "As" in AP history, that didn't know this, are running to their favorite search engine right now to try and fact check this. Let's wait for them... ⏳
Why do US people not know their own history?
Before folks ask, "Why was I not taught this in school?!" Look at what DeSantis is doing to AP history in Florida. You know exactly why you weren't taught this in school. Because it's easier to get you to accept mistreatment of Black people, if you don't know white American history.
Mostly reclusive and carrying slightly damaged goods. A survivor by some accounts. Definitely in need of much therapy. ;)
Staunchly anti-fascist
Bear in mind that, while I may "like" your "toot", about a person, event or particular topic, if it links to the "bird-site" I will no longer boost and inadvertently contribute to their grift. Everyone has a choice and a part to play when crimes go unpunished.
