@bookstodon #books #bookstodon DROWNING PRACTICE, by @mikemeginnis is a uniquely dreamy and dynamic take on the end of the world. If you enjoyed HURRICANE GIRL, by Marcy Dermansky, or END OF THE WORLD HOUSE, by Adrienne Celt, I think this novel will definitely resonate with you as well. The author tackles themes regarding how much control we have over our lives when the world is crashing, and what will be most important to us at the end. (He also skewers narcissism, which is infinitely satisfying.)

Blocked my first instance (misskey.cf). Googled it to see what the hell it was and my anti-virus went bonkers. That's good enough for me.

Boris Johnson claimed somebody called him a 'wanker’ while he was out jogging.

Security’s sources say, after a thorough investigation, they’ve narrowed it down to 55 million people, two ex-wives, one current wife and fifteen ex-mistresses.

Good morning, friends. 🌻🌼🌺

I mentioned that yesterday, I went to a quilt show to take photographs. There were many more people there than I imagined that there would be - I generally don't like crowds. It wasn't lost on me that I was the only man there - at least at that time. But I while I took photos, I watched the people there and the thing that impressed me the most was how happy they were.

Over a hundred quilts were on display and there were various booths selling fabric, quilted bags, etc.

"True happiness comes from the joy of deeds well done, the zest of creating things new." - Antoine de Saint-Exupery

"We all get report cards in many different ways, but the real excitement of what you're doing is in the doing of it. It's not what you're gonna get in the end—it's not the final curtain—it's really in the doing it and loving what you're doing." —Ralph Lauren

Majestic hunter.

This red-tailed hawk was buzzing my yard a couple weeks ago. It was hiding among the turkey vultures, which shows that birds are clever. This is a pretty clear and detailed photograph.

"Courting Red-tailed Hawks put on a display in which they soar in wide circles at a great height. The male dives steeply, then shoots up again at an angle nearly as steep. After several of these swoops he approaches the female from above, extends his legs, and touches her briefly. Sometimes, the pair grab onto one other, clasp talons, and plummet in spirals toward the ground before pulling away." - allabutbirds.org

Approaching the drop zone.

In this photo of a chipping sparrow, you can almost see the air providing lift under its wings during its final glide path to the bird feeder. Notice the way it uses its wings and tail together ... landing gear down.

"The Chipping Sparrow was once known as the "hair bird" due to its habit of lining its nests with horse hair, which was readily available when horses were the main form of transportation. Once horses gave way to automobiles, Chipping Sparrows had to switch to other types of hair to line their nests. Although the nickname of "hair bird" went the way of the horse and carriage, this sparrow still seeks soft hair to line its nest — now mostly from deer, cows, and smaller mammals." - abcbirds.org

I'm hiding.

This very red northern cardinal is in a crepe myrtle tree near my back fence. Fortunately, it's up high so the fence isn't in the picture.

"The cardinal is a popular motif on many bird-themed decorations, holiday cards, and ornaments. It even features as a main character in a popular video game-turned-movie. The species' eye-catching plumage and wide distribution also helped land the Northern Cardinal the title of “most popular state bird,” since the following seven states declare it the official bird (the most for any species): Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, Virginia, and West Virginia. It's also a popular sports mascot, from Missouri (the St. Louis professional baseball team) to Arizona (professional football team), and at countless colleges and high schools." - abcbirds.org

A special thank you to all major social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.)

Great job letting Trump back on so he can incite more riots before his impending arrest

And a big thank you to anyone still on those platforms—literally enabling them to do so
