@jerlich @jerlich@qoto.org I would@be bored to tears if I only ever saw people post about science. Seeing people talk about real life (hobbies, family, travel) is one of the joys of social media. Bring it all!
Sunrise over Lake Superior
I've been photographing this little island for over 15 years. It never gets old. This shot from 2012 is one of my favorites.
The water levels constantly change & currently are 18 inches higher than when I took this photo. According to the U.S. Army Corps, on Superior one inch of water is equal to ~550 billion gallons of water. That means that Superior currently has about 9.9 trillion more gallons of water in it now.
Would a picture of a baby elephant in the water for the very first time bring you some extra cheer today?! Ta da. 🤗
I remember that the final blow that broke the friendship with my former best friend was the banning of Trump on Twitter lol!
He was pissed on Twitter because they blocked Trump and I said something like: "Finally" and he blocked me after that haha!
He's a 'free speech' person but can't handle any 'speech' against him it seems. Recently he tried to reestablish contact since Mastodon blew up on Twitter but I declined! "Take your BS somewhere else, ain't got time for you"
With masks even more important these days, allow me to introduce you to Aaron Collins, the self-proclaimed "mask nerd". He has assembled a comprehensive database on all mask types, which ones are best, and which ones to avoid.

Winter PSA
Contrary to the lyrics in a popular Xmas song, the snowman does in fact NOT bring the snow.
The snowman is made FROM snow.
That said, The Snowman (1982) brings joy, sadness & an understandingly of the harsh fragility of life.
Ponies presentation .
Earlier this month I read from, and chatted about, my book. The video and slideshow is now on YouTube, link below.
The Ponies at the Edge of the World tells the story of #Shetland ponies and the people who love them. Based on my PhD research and journey to live in Shetland, it reflects on how our relationships with others, human, animal and #landscapes, affect how we feel at home in a place #anthropology #horses #Scotland #naturewriting #nature

I completely disagree with Jack Dorsey here, and I wonder how he even finds this notion to be defensible.
No, I don't want snuff films or abusive content to be permanently on the Internet.
I....am not finding Mastodon that hard to use.
FediFinder helped me find/follow many folks I followed on Twitter.
Following hashtags has helped me find subject matter important to me -- and folks similarly aligned.
But maybe I'm doing this wrong. I dunno. (I don't think I'm doing this wrong.)
Nobody loses friends over the estate tax or the appropriate level of regulation. Say what you mean.

You remember when a friend could do or say something you disagree with - and still be your friend? Let’s get back to that.

Why? Because they would interfere in his mission to remake Twitter into a right wing disinformation machine.

In other news, Elon Musk has formally dissolved Twitter’s Trust & Safety Council responsible for Online Safety and Harassment, Human and Digital Rights, Suicide Prevention and Mental Health, Child Sexual Exploitation, and Dehumanization on Twitter.

Mostly reclusive and carrying slightly damaged goods. A 56 yo survivor by some accounts. Definitely in need of much therapy. ;)
Staunchly anti-fascist
Bear in mind that, while I may "like" your "toot", about a person, event or particular topic, if it links to the "bird-site" I will no longer boost and inadvertently contribute to their grift. Everyone has a choice and a part to play when crimes go unpunished.
