@freemo @commandelicious Good haggis is delicious. Bad haggis I'm not so fond of. Fortunately they do pretty good haggis for the most part here because it's something we actually like to eat.
Remember the gravitational waves?
Prof Rana Adhikari is a hero of mine. People like that make science fun.

@freemo @commandelicious Well, you can get it deep fried in batter here if you like. With chips. I'd say it's the most Scottish way possible.
My husband usually goes for a half pizza crunch supper which involves a half pizza dipped in batter and deep fried. That comes with chips.
I'm more conventional, I just have fish:P
@jonlandrum @commandelicious Cheer up, I am not great at getting along with people in general. I miss social cues, mess up terribly and accidentally offend people all the time. I still try, and then end up making mistakes that I cringe over for about 30 years. It's bad:P You really don't suck:)
@freemo @commandelicious I like the police in Scotland. I am friendly with some police dog handlers and talk to them a fair bit. I suppose I should have added police dogs as an interest too. Well, animals in general because they are great. Except for earwigs and giant millipedes because they freak me out a bit. They can stay outside the house!
@commandelicious @freemo @Demo318 agreed. I even find myself excusing my knowledge - 'how do you know so much about that?' 'Oh, I grew up with two brothers'. Less effort than staring someone down!
@freemo @commandelicious @Katobell @Demo318 One thing I can tell you, male peers have never looked down on me for being a woman. It's only ever been managers or clients. The people you work with every day know how much you put in and your sex doesn't matter one bit.
I was considering going into business for myself after I finish my degree and I was genuinely wondering about hiring a man to be the 'face' for my company simply so I don't have to deal with clients who won't take a woman seriously.
It's ridiculous, but I know they exist, I have met too many of them and I don't have the time or inclination to deal with that. I'd rather just get someone else to deal with the muppets 😖
@commandelicious @freemo @Katobell @Demo318 About women in science and engineering? I wasn't exactly encouraged but I grew up in the 70's and 80's and it was a lot more sexist back then. We had a typing class in my school that I actively had to avoid 😖
I read about Leonardo Da Vinci when I was a kid and decided I wanted to be a renaissance man and learn about everything like he did. That is probably why I am the way I am. There was a lot of arguments in order for me to learn a few things along the way and I ended up growing pretty thick skin and working in a few all male teams so I could learn things too 🤔
I think things are a lot different nowadays. I hope they are in any case. I think they have changed how they teach things in England a LOT though. I was looking at the qualifications so I could tutor someone and I barely recognised them.
@HN This TED Talk goes quite nicely with that bit of information.

I play Grand Strategy games, but why?
So, Europa Universalis 4 is one of my favourite games.
So I started to look at some interesting nations/countries to play and came Ajuran (EU4 uses the somali transliteration Ajuuraan)
It has some very nice ideas, basically strength you can use.
Naturally I read up on it, the history and how it came to be.
"In the 13th century AD, the Ajuran Empire was the only hydraulic empire in Africa. As an hydraulic empire, the Ajuran monopolized the water resources of the Shebelle and Jubba rivers."
In game terms it makes it easier to develop provinces.
I love alternative history, so what would have happened if Ajuuraan had colonized/settled large areas of land and expanded over the entire east coast of Africa?

@art Looks like I'd be crazy not to investigate it then. It sounds like it has way too much potential to not be of significant use. Thank you for sharing that link and explaining more about it:)
@n@mastodon.technology Looks like I may be taking you up on your offer sometime after all 😭
