Hi folks!
Maybe this is a dumb question, but can anyone tell me the difference between "follow" and "subscribe"?
@PartialGestalt follow the user gets a notification you followed, and they might set it so they need to approve. It gives you access to both their public annd follower-only posts.
Subscribe does not notify the user and the user can not restrict who subscribes in any way, its completely anonymous. You will see their public posts but not their follower-only posts.
@PartialGestalt there are two options?
@1abidaliawan @PartialGestalt It is a Qoto-only feature.
@trinsec @1abidaliawan Aha! That would explain why I didn't see it in the docs.
Thanks, everybody!
@1abidaliawan It is a quoto instance thing.
@JulienDelpierre got it. Thank you.
@PartialGestalt When you follow someone, they are notified and can follow you back. With subscribe, there is no notification. Subscribe is a stealth follow.
This distinction may be unique to QOTO. I saw it mentioned someplace as one of its features.
@PartialGestalt Follow is as usual that everybody knows. They get notified that you're following them. You can read their follower-only posts. And in case they curate their followers, you would have to apply for following and they'd have to approve it first.
Subscribe allows you to 'follow' without needing approval/permission and without informing them. The only thing is that you only get to see their public toots as it's not a real follow, just a way for you to keep up with their public postings.
