U.S. politics: elections, Democrats

Dems wrapping up election-day eve on a "democracy is on the ballot" note is probably gonna cost them a lot of seats in Congress. Republicans are undeniably proposing and implementing changes that will erode democratic institutions, but average voters care more about the economy right now. They should've zeroed in on how they stanched economic meltdown, citing the grim circumstances in Europe, and how Republicans are floating massive cuts to social security and health care. I can't help but think dems have, more often than not, so much disconnect with the average voter

Hey Americans do NOT let someone disenfranchise you. Vote has been a very hard fought RIGHT and DO NOT SQUANDER it. The country, democracy and fellow citizens NEED YOU. MAKE A POINT TO GO OUT THERE AND BE COUNTED.

@daeyoung

So the choice is between approving of the killing of a million Americans, or abandoning democracy...

That sucks.

Here's my take...

p.s. - You don't need put a content warning on political speech here on qoto. We're all adults, we can handle it.

@Pat I heard that’s a standard practice here on Mastodon and I intend to respect it—although I don’t quite understand if it actually really matters that much

@daeyoung

The rules and customs vary from instance to instance. Here on qoto, CW's are only required for certian content. (See: qoto.org/about/more#rules)

If someone from another instance is looking at the federated timeline, they're going to see all kinds of stuff anyway.

Also, when did civic participation become offensive?

@Pat you have a point. I’ll perhaps stop using CW for political toots

@Pat @daeyoung

Oh! Really? How do you explain so many staying away from polls

U.S. politics: elections, Democrats

@Pat thanks for the link. I can see you feel very strongly about the Covid response. But Covid no longer occupies the public consciousness anymore. I’m fairly liberal and I’ve stopped thinking about Covid for months, if not years. Polls show the #1 concern is the economy and Dems should’ve tackled it head-on

@daeyoung

>" But Covid no longer occupies the public consciousness anymore"

I don't think that's true. Most people I speak with are very concerned about it, and about how the governent fucked things up. The pandemic is still raging, you know.

Most of those polls are forced choice answers where they didn't even list the pandemic response as one of the choices.

The only one I've found that included the pandemic was a Pew poll (all Pew polls are fiction, BTW), and they used the term "coronavirus outbreak". Who calls it that?

In any case, that fact is that our government has just killed more than a million Americans, so if old media decides to try to sweep those million bodies under the rug, it doesn't change the facts. People should vote based on facts, not illusions.
