Can somebody please tell me that this is somehow engraved in the DNA of capitalism? All right, we have battery alliances now - but of course we won't have one battery standard for appliances and power tools but *at least two*.

"Cordless Alliance" cordless-alliance-system.de/

and

"Power4All Alliance"
powerforall-alliance.com/de/pa

Both have 18V Li-Ion systems. Both could be compatible, but aren't.

@EU_Commission, please do something.

@cweickhmann
The great thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from.

- Broad vs. Standard gauge RR tracks
- AC vs. DC
- Betamax vs. VHS
- IBM PC DOS vs. Apple
- Apple vs. Android

Yeah, this has been going on for a long time. Ever since the industrial age started. I think it's build in to DNA of economic competition.

I think it will become less so as we shift toward distributed manufacturing, 3D printers in every home, replicators, etc.

@Pat @AndyLowry

You forgot HD-DVD vs. Bluray. ;-)

And to be fair to the train industry: It's waaaaaay more complicated than broad vs. standard gauge 😂
And there's the contentious AC/DC/which voltage question as well. So, count that out. It's clearly full chaos.
