Boosts should be used sparingly. When I choose to follow someone, it's because I want to read what they have to say, not what they like.

Boosting a lot just fills up the timeline with a lot of stuff that I'm most likely not interested in.

Also, if you do a lot of boosting, people will be less likely to follow your account. When I consider following someone, I'll look at their toots and if I see a lot of boosts, I won't follow them. I also turn off boosts in my Home timeline.

If you want to show support for someone's toot, take the time to respond to it and say something supportive or constructive. Add some content to the community. Your followers will see your toot and if they are interested they'll click on it and see the OP.

Also, if you don't have a lot of followers, don't bother boosting at all, just favorite the toot. I had someone the other day boost one of my toots who had zero followers!

Anyway, that's my take on it.
