@freepeoplesfreepress 150 miles is a decent tropo hop for 2m. You may have gotten some tropo or even some aircraft bounce. Check out Pascal F5LEN's tropo forecast website for your area. tropo.f5len.org/ Summer is the time for tropo. If you're on the landing pattern for a big airport, you may find regular brief band openings up to 500km. Aircraft queueing to land at SYD cross my radio path to Canberra every morning. Early long-range radar systems used to use VHF before the band got too cluttered for that purpose.
