Atheist; loathe almost all religions and pity the people deluded enough to follow them. I make exceptions for Buddhism as it isn't really a religion in the strictest sense of the word as it doesn't postulate the existence of any god, and Jainism which is the epitome of peace.
For anyone who is interested, my header photo is of the most stupendous sunset I have ever seen. On the right is the waterfront of Vientiane, the capital of Laos, on the left is Thailand and in the middle, acting as the border between the two countries is the mighty Mekong river.

There's another point that comparisons between countries often miss. In many countries you can obtain a license to own a firearm but many, even most, countries required that your gun(s) are locked away in secure storage separate from the ammunition which also has to be in secure storage.
Very few people indeed have the legal right to actually carry a loaded firearm on their person in public!
The last thing the tory scum want is a well educated populace. Nobody who is educated and has finely honed critical thinking skills is going to vote for the bucket of venal shit that is the tory party!

Given how many NHS staff before 2016 were from EU countries and how effectively the racist scum in the UK population and in the ranks of the tory party have made them feel unwelcome, I don't think there is going to be a shortcut route for Labour or anyone else to 'improve' on the quality of care due to lack of qualified personnel!

@ChrisMayLA6 After generations of breeding from the Young Farmers gene pool, British farmers are so ineffably dim that they festooned their fields with "Vote Leave" billboards, apparently without first asking their accountant where their income was coming from. Paying people like that to stand in fields planting potatoes (rather than letting them try their hand at banking, running the NHS or flying airliners) might count as a public good, but there must be cheaper forms of outdoor relief.

Yes well, the extreme right wing government in the UK would accept any toxic shit just to get the prices in the supermarkets down a bit. They care neither for the health of the nation (especially not that of the nation's poor) nor for the consequences for Britain's farmers of the importation of cheap meat from the USA!
It's no coincidence that life expectancy in the USA is falling significantly whereas in the EU it's still rising, albeit with a bit of a blip caused by Covid. Americans generally seem to have an utterly appalling diet and 'endure' levels of obesity that will inevitably lead, for many people, to chronic illness and to premature death.

It's a very interesting picture as most American meat is banned from the EU and rightly so as the standards of animal husbandry are way lower in the USA than in the EU. Many harmful substances used in US agriculture are outright banned in the EU and surprise, surprise - there is no consumer pressure on the EU administration to allow cheap US meat onto the shelves of supermarkets in the EU, in fact the diametric opposite; consumer pressure is to continue or tighten the current restrictions on unhealthy animal husbandry practices both at home and in the countries from which meat is imported into the EU.

@harriettmb Not only does the Untied Kingdom have a state religion, it is also one of only 2 countries in the world that allows representatives of that state religion automatic seats in the legislature, i.e. the CofE bishops in the House of 'Lords'.

I should probably add to that the percentage levied on earnings should be absolutely without an upper limit and in my view it should be levied on unearned income as well as earned income!
Good dental health and hygiene is essential to good overall heath! Chronic infections in the mouth such as gingivitis and periodontal disease can cause heart disease and all sorts of other health issues!
The idiot tories with their usual brain dead stupidity, don't grasp that! So short term savings by making NHS dentistry unavailable to the bulk of people will result in massive costs to the NHS further down the line!
However, you can't tell tory morons that they only understand money grabbing short-termism!
