@ademalsasa The brand alone doesn't really say much, since in the past I've had good and bad Lenovo, HP and Dell laptops. No matter the brand, you're going to run into issues if the laptop has Nvidia hardware in it. If the GPU was made by Intel or AMD, the compatibility should be really good. Also, Intel Wifi chips should work really well with Linux.

What's your laptop brand?

Please share how compatible is it with your GNU/Linux. :gnu: :linux:

Boost is very appreciated.

rant

@aphyr Today I was once again annoyed by the fact that excel is not a database. It works inconsistently, so you can’t really trust that the code that worked last week will continue to work tomorrow. Are you saying that doing this stuff in SQL isn’t going to make my life better…

It's not map data, but we know how data-minded you all, so have a look at these two graphs and tell us what you see:

@zornslemmon @standupmaths
Currently, we have observed things going wrong only once, which means that the probability would be 1/15*10^6. As we have only one observation like that, there is a lot of uncertainty and variability in that estimate. We would need a sample size several orders of magnitude larger before we can say much more about that probability. Currently, we are lead to believe that it’s incredibly unlikely, but there’s a possibility that we just got super lucky 15 million times in a row. What if the true probability is closer to 1/100 or something.

Turns out, resetting the settings to default did the trick. Didn’t investigate it any further, so I can’t tell exactly what caused it.

@runarcn Ah, it worked again after I went to the uBlock preferences, purged the cache, and updated all rules.

Is anyone else having problems watching videos on while having enabled? I’ve been wondering when YT forces me to switch to another platform, but I didn’t expect it to happen today.

Transparency has always been key for us, especially concerning our finances.

We're pleased to share that we're in a comfortable financial position currently, and we feel it's the right time to give a little back. We've chosen to support Pixelfed with a donation of 350 CAD.

They're doing commendable work in offering an open-source, decentralized photo-sharing platform that aligns with our values of privacy and ad-free content. Every bit helps in the Fediverse.

We need your support!

We desperately need to grow our donations or consider cutting costs (like sunsetting non-essential services) to remain sustainable.

Besides Pixelfed, we also run fedidb.org, fediverse.info and activitypub.network

Donations can be made via:
Patreon - patreon.com/dansup (preferred)
PayPal - paypal.me/dansup (preferred)

Spread the word! #pixelfed

Pixelfed, a decentralized alternative to Instagram, added a migration feature for grabbing your images. I tried it out and wrote a guide: wired.com/story/migrate-move-i

@hund Reminds me of this famous quote:

“The best thing about R is that it was written by statisticians.
The worst thing about R is that it was written by statisticians.”

Also.

It's apparently impossible for people to take information in before barfing their thoughts out.

Lots of people saying "NACS is a tragedy because it doesn't support three-phase" when, y'know, I'm pretty sure I spent some time talking about how we just flat out don't have three-phase power in homes.

Ugh.

Anyway, I'll shut up. Overall, the response has been much better than I figured. I was very worried about how this video would be received!
