Here, near #Fontainebleau 60km south of Paris, yesterday's #temperature was higher than 16°C.
For the last day of 2022, tens of T° records broken in western Europe.
To remember that we are in “𝓌𝒾𝓃𝓉𝑒𝓇” I asked Midjourney #AI to generate something with the prompt “𝓃𝑒𝓌 𝓎𝑒𝒶𝓇 𝑒𝓋𝑒 𝒾𝓃 𝐹𝑜𝓃𝓉𝒶𝒾𝓃𝑒𝒷𝓁𝑒𝒶𝓊 𝒻𝑜𝓇𝑒𝓈𝓉” 👇🏼
After a pause due to the holiday and moving disruption, I’ve updated the list of Earth Science folks on Mastodon - anyone who has submitted their details in the past couple of weeks should now show up.
https://all-geo.org/mastodon-earthsci/
We’re up to 320+ names - I’m wondering if I need to add some organisation/filtering to make it manageable.
If you’d like to add yourself (and haven’t already) go to:
Found a beautiful #myxomycete in the #Cévennes (South of France) few days ago. Probably not exactly the famous laboratory #blob but close to.
@vegos_f05 Serge Zaka is here: @sergezaka but not yet posting on Mastodon
@vegos_f05 Just posted him an incentive to open a Mastodon account
I post here this awesome map from Serge Zaka 👇🏼
2022 has been the warmest year on record (since start of the measurements) for most of European countries.
Unfortunately, Serge Zaka is apparently not on Fediverse but he maintains an excellent twitter feed on #climate #agroclimate #weather #agronomy in #France, #Europe: https://twitter.com/SergeZaka (sorry for posting a link to the bird site)
Sea level rise update - satellite altimetry data now processed through October 2022 (and another increase in rate) 🌊

NASA has officially retired the InSight lander on Mars after the solar panels stopped producing enough power to keep it operating. It had a great 4 years of science operations.

USGS got very similar mechanism, but puts hypocenter deeper (around 20km). This perhaps means that the #earthquake rupture happened in the Gorda tectonic plate beneath the upper N American plate. The small Gorda plate is plunging under N America along the #Cascadia #subduction zone.
Magnitude Mw6.4 #earthquake in the region of the #Mendocino triple junction, at northern end of the San Andreas fault, #California. Mechanism is strike slip; rupture may have occurred on any of the ~N-S or ~E-W fault plane as it's a tectonically complicated area.

Time to finally do a proper #introduction here before the year is out.
👋 I’m a #ClimateScientist, #geophysicist, #educator and associate #professor @ McGill University in #Canada. My research group works on understanding #SeaLevel and #IceSheets in past, current and future #climate using #NumericalModeling tools and geophysical and geological observations.
Passionate about #education, #outreach, #interdisciplinary research + training and supporting #equity + #inclusion in #academia and #stem.
Time ago, the now scary bird site, was useful for science, knowledge building, hazard communication, etc...
We wrote a paper on that: Rapid collaborative knowledge building via Twitter after significant geohazard events.
Wow Santa Claus answered me 😊 🎉
At least she/he's alive here 😉
The government of #Germany posted this on the scary bird site:
#Freedom of the press must not be switched on and off at will. As of today, the #journalists below can no longer follow, comment or criticize us. We have a problem with that twitter.
Geology, tectonics, earthquakes, seismotectonics, hazard epistemology & sci com.
