That song 👇🏽 for #earthquake awareness by Pashupati Sharma & Devi Gharti Magar with the words of Dr. Shiba Subedi from #Seismology at School in #Nepal 🙏🏽👏🏽❤️
Chorus says "Everyone learns how to prepare to survive an earthquake".
"Seismology at School in Nepal" program has been working to make people aware of earthquakes and their better preparation in Nepal.
Today, one of the oldest and most famous French weather observatory, Mont Aigoual at 1567m asl, smashed its 125yr old record, overpassing 30°C for the first time, with 30.3°C 🌡️ (and the day is not finished).
At lower altitude in SE France, 40°C largely overpassed everywhere. August all time records, sometimes absolute records, smashed in many places.
Strangely the voices of the climate change denialists have become silent…

And now it's two-thirds of France under #heatwave alert, with 19 department with red flag (extreme).
Many records for the month of August have fallen, and this will continue tomorrow.
Red flag (max level alert) in 4 French departments because of heat wave. More than half of France under orange alert…

@bonpoteofficiel Important article sur le sujet. Extrait: "scientists are biased not toward alarmism but rather the reverse: toward cautious estimates, where we define caution as erring on the side of less rather than more alarming predictions"

2️⃣ Alghuraybi et al. use borehole and 3D seismic reflection data to quantify the lateral propagation and displacement accumulation rates for syn-kinematic faults. They argue that these faults provide a unique snapshot of the earliest stage of fault growth.

Our updated statistics in the attached diagram.
To date, #Tektonika has published 12 papers and 5 more are at the copy-editing stage.
We opened end of May 2022. 49 manuscripts submitted since June 2022, and the rate is rising after a low in Feb-April. 7 submissions in August until now.
Publishing and reading in #DOAJ is free. It is based on voluntary work by managing group, editors, reviewers, technical team, and support of host Universities (Aberdeen for Tektonika)
Another strength of #Tektonika we are proud of is the comprehensive review report published alongside each article.
In Tektonika's first editorial we have included this diagram with the timeline from submission to publication for our twenty first manuscripts. It shows how many days each step of the evaluation process took (data at the date of 24 May 2023).
Such data and analyses are rarely provided by academic journals, probably because their review process is often opaque and undisclosed.
Have you downloaded #Tektonika's Volume 1 yet?
No?!

On 24 July we have issued our first volume. It includes a nice editorial piece outlining the journal's life story and our future plans and hopes (for Tektonika #DOAJ and #openscience).
Give it a read! > https://tektonika.online/index.php/home/article/view/56
Well that’s an intrusion if I’ve ever seen one. Wrapped 8-day interferogram from COSMO-Skymed showing surface deformation caused by magmatic intrusion (causing the earthquake swarm). Data processed by The Icelandic Met Office by Vincent Drouin #InSAR #Fagradalsfjall
At TEKTONIKA #DOAJ we aim to expand our editorial board, including colleagues from under-represented continents, countries and groups. For example applications from Africa would be particularly appreciated. Ditto for manuscript submission.
For more infos and application, you may contact the journal (see on web page https://tektonika.online), answer to this tweet, follow us, or DM

Monday morning, time to remember those words by Naomi Oreskes:
"It is not unreasonable to think we could […] live in a less destructive manner than we do now. If that aspiration appears to be unrealistic, then we need to find strategies to make it real."
