Being editor of Tektonika (tektonika.online) I'm so happy to see that our friends from Seismica @weareseismica have just published their editorial paper "The launch of Seismica: a seismic shift in publishing" 👏

@jascha Induced seismicity is much less trendy in the #insurance industry than it was back when it was happening right under Oklahoma City.

But for those who don't have USGS #earthquake alerts set to M3.5... there are still a ton of induced earthquakes! Now mostly in West Texas.

Today’s #Texas M5.4 #earthquake (approximate location as a purple blob) in the context of nearby #reinjection wells and other recent #earthquakes on a map from Tung et al. (2020)

Dear #geotweeps,

We are very happy to announce that sedimentologika.org is online 🥳 you can check submission guidelines, reviewer guidelines and learn about the journal

Also submissions will be open starting 19th November 2022 🥳🎉 so get those manuscripts ready

RT @CopernicusEU: #DYK that parts of the Greek islands 🇬🇷 move (horizontally↔️) at a velocity of several mm per year?

You can monitor this phenomenon with the products of the @CopernicusLand European Ground Motion Service #EGMS

🆕The data can now be downloaded! More at land.copernicus.eu/news/the-eu

The #NASA #InSight team is holding a full science meeting this week at the Royal Astronomical Society (#RAS) in London. This might be one of the last team meetings during the mission given that the spacecraft is soon expected to run out of power and enter "dead bus" mode.

Well, the twittosphere and matodosphere marvel at the launch of rocket by

That's fine. But is it really a priority for humanity in the face of much greater and more vital challenges like and crises and the urgent need to mitigate and adapt ? I doubt.

Don't hesitate to comment.

Few months ago, together with @RaphaelGrandin and J.M. Lalande from MeteoFrance, I participated as a scientific advisor to the making of this amazing scientific illustration 👇

It summarizes scientific observations on the Hunga explosion, associated global and atmospheric waves.

French newspaper Le Monde published these 2 pages in September 2022. Great work by the journalist and the graphic designer, Vahé Ter Minassian and Audrey Lagadec.

DM if you would like a higher resolution PDF 😉

This most recent #Fiji M7.0 earthquake is not as close to the bottom of the local #intraslab seismicity as the previous deep #earthquakes a few days ago.
(note that the focal #mechanisms are projected onto the vertical cross section)

The #Tonga/#Fiji #earthquake sequence is not done yet! Another very deep M7.0 #quake today, 100s of km North of the previous deep events in the region a few days ago.

A significant sequence of #earthquakes occurred this week in the #Tonga-Fiji #subduction zone. First several events at great depths (600+ km) within the subducted slab, then today a very different type of event: a deep compressional outer rise earthquake. I have plotted these four earthquakes on this map in the context of historical #seismicity.

Since there was interest, I have set up a Google Form/Sheet for Earth Scientists on Mastodon.

High resolution (2 meters) Pleiades DEM allowed quantitative analysis of the flights of marine terraces marking Kythira island coast.

Thanks to CNES Isis program which provided us with the Pleiades imagery.
