Long time ago I received my allergy test results: moderate to dust mites and mild to dog/cat fur. I never had a problem with the latter.
Yesterday I patted a mate's cat who shed a lot of fur. Then I must have rubbed my eye afterwards or something - my left eye swelled, reddened and became itchy. It still feels a little swollen now after a sleep. I've proven my allergy result with hard, practical science.
Send help and antihistamines.

Just massaged the cat again after I woke up. This time I washed my hands afterwards.
@Rovine animal allergies are actually relative to specific animals. I knew a man that spent the money necessary to collect saliva from his personal horse so they could make immunotherapy serums for him. Not all dogs or cats will trigger your allergy in the same way,

That's good to know. My mate also has dogs and they don't trigger me at all.
@Rovine my sister in law had a cat that could trigger me from her bay window while I was still in my car in the driveway :)
@Rovine My eyes get irritated too, wont stop me from smothering every animal i see with kisses though.
