I’m just stuck on why anyone would want to be Speaker this bad. I don’t understand why someone would go through this much suffering for the chance to go through more suffering. I don’t get it. Please note that this is not an invitation to explain it to me, not least because I maintain that it’s fundamentally inexplicable in any rational fashion.

I have invented a new cocktail! Okay, it's a variation on a whiskey sour, but it's a unique and delicious variation thereon! Recipe:

2 ounces bourbon
¾ ounce fresh lemon juice
¾ ounce mulberry syrup
Lemon wheel (for serving, optional)
Star anise tincture (for serving)

Combine bourbon, lemon juice, and syrup. Shake with ice. Pour into chilled coup glasses. Put in lemon wheel, then squirt 1 eyedropper full of tincture on top. Don't mix!

It is purple.

It's possible the fascists just don't understand how the debt ceiling works, and that's why they want the US to default.

It's possible.

But remember, the nazis voted to dissolve the Reichstag. A defaulted government is easier to control, and people in the midst of economic crisis are more vulnerable and thus easier for the cult-like fascists to recruit. Fascists don't want government to function until they've taken over.

So don't assume it's ignorance.
