But in Mozilla's case "the market" means Google. As long as Google keeps supplying the money, Mozilla is "reading the market" very accurately and successfully from a narrow profit-focussed business perspective. It's just that "the market" is not browser users, it's corporate benefactors.

In a parallel universe, where John Deere is a Russian company, those UA farmers can't tow away those tanks. If they didn't disconnect in time or they've accidentally enabled the connection, there is no more towing for them. With everything on the internet, they've got a #TowBan and a #PlowBan

Incidentally the main drive towards excessive energy use in computing is PROFIT! Surveillance advertising. DRM. SaaSS.

The other major drive is ideology. When so many would rather bundle Chrome (Electron) with their apps rather than learn native toolkits like GTK.

I value simple, efficient software that only uses as much energy as necessary. Which is trivial to fork & take in your direction. But which don't throw the baby out with the bathwater in regards to featureset (which is a matter of debate), accessibility, & inclusivity. The later two almost always asks nothing more of a dev than to use more complex dependencies.

There is a limited amount of renewable energy we can deploy, so everyone needs to get smarter about using it. Which we are!

Good morning. Time to share another machine from my collection. (Don't worry, my collection is kinda small so this won't last forever)

This ZX Spectrum +2 was sent to me by the awesome @GedgeHead including a genuine Sinclair joystick and the lightgun. I've made a few mods to clean up the video on it and it's my main Speccy I use for gaming and demos. The power supply shown here is just an empty case into which I put a modern switch-mode 110v US power supply - as well as a power switch like any civilized computer 😛😛🤣
