Having now been on #Mastodon for 1 month, a few observations:
- Mastodon makes me realize how much the #Twitter algorithm maximized user outrage to boost engagement for profit. Gross. Here, my feed is interesting & supportive.
- There's a culture of kindness - at least so far. It's extremely appealing & should be normalized on & offline.
- Beyond reactions to toots, people share songs, poetry & ask great questions. I can't remember the last time I found social media to be fun.
I feel really bad for Mr. Thiel. Maybe he should try his rich, billionaire hand at buying a large media company. Seems to be all the rage with smart, anti-woke types.
@DavMicRot
It's sad that respectable people are getting dragged into Musk's vortex. I've seen several people I highly regard address this issue with Musk personally and they are playing right in to the bratty little game. Twitter is Elon's private club sandbox. No one is required to play there. If you're smart and contribute there it's pearls and swine all the way down. I understand people wanting to counter balance his crap, but don't try to do it on his turf. Waste of time.
This was a mere 7 months ago. So much cringe...

Ben Shapiro made the mistake of voting for the Leopards Eating Faces Party and is now surprised the leopards are eating his face with a side of antisemitism.

I asked Jay Garfield about this and he was rather dubious!
Worth mentioning too: Pyrrho, the skeptic. Went to India with Alexander, met with yogis. His skeptical school got revived by folks like Cornelius Agrippa, to form the foundation of the scientific revolution. So that is Buddhism as a deep root of science.
On November 25, at the urging of a far-right troll, Elon Musk banned the @CrimethInc Twitter account.
Musk’s goal in acquiring Twitter had nothing to do with “free speech”—it was a partisan move to silence opposition, paving the way for fascist violence.

So "politically" about 34% of Americans didn't vote. Now, are those 34% non-voter "culturally" wanting Trump? Not sure. Seems to me, though, that if you were culturally for Trump you would have been very motivated to vote. You have to be pretty motivated to like Trump.
@Davidtoddmccarty @VickiKyriakakis
Is there any hope in the fact Trump lost?
birdsite, fascism
@eevee
I kind of agree. These keyboard Nazi's live to own the libs and the libs sort of feed into them. Let them have "free speech" at Twitter. You can either sift through the trolls and believe you will change their minds or you find quieter spaces elsewhere. Don't allow them to control the (your) narrative. Resist.
It occurs to me that everything old is new again.
@adamdavidson I just read this from Der Spiegel and it convinced me to leave. It's not a social network anymore it's a social experiment and we are the test subjects. I think they nailed it. We need to convince our representatives to move from Twitter to Mastodon. Leave Twitter to Trump and friends.
@BGrueskin
I guess one "good drag queen in stilettoes" is better than a bunch of "good guys with guns".
I'm a 59 year old African American woman. I've desegregated a town, a school system and many other spaces. When I discuss racism in this nation, I'm not going to ameliorate my speech for the comfort of anyone. I don't exist to comfort others about the reality of what I was born into - what we all live in together. If that's a problem for you, I suggest you embark on some self-reflection to determine what your actual role is within this system.
