Dear #mastodoncommunity #fediversecommunity upon the eve of Thanksgiving in America, I give thanks to those who never gave up for rights I have today, like those in Selma in the 60s marches. Read my published poem below.

@ThatAuntie Your concern is completely legit. Absolutely true that some parts of the white audience for Black pop culture misuse it to reinforce racism, & fair to call out silent white followers of #BlackMastodon.
But I also fear white folks barging into a Black space and taking up all the air. Much of the work we white folks need to do is to listen and learn rather than assume the prerogative to talk and teach. So I'm generally going to be careful about jumping in w/out an invitation.
@kaydubatl I'm trying, but lots of dilemmas in all this. Thanks to #BlackMastodon for being here!
Elon Musk can kiss the darkest part of my #blacktwitter ass #blackmastodon Fam #elonmusk is trash. https://www.independent.co.uk/tech/elon-musk-twitter-ferguson-protests-obama-b2231181.html
I found myself a proof copy of ‘I’m Black So You Don’t Have To Be’ the new memoir by fellow Jamaican author Colin Grant, published with Penguin, January 2023. It is a brilliant memoir told in eight intimate portraits, it’s poignant, brutally frank and as provocative as the title suggests, a powerful storytelling of race and identity and the Caribbean-Black experience. Pre-order it now!

You know how one can't be a little bit fascist? How there are no moderate fascists? The same goes for RACISM.
💛 “The Problem with Thanksgiving” by @clayrivers
And the issue isn’t in wishing someone a happy Thanksgiving.

People who are genuinely concerned with building good communities in the Fediverse are people who are concerned with how to solve the problems being raised.
The rest of you are fine with virtual redlining, which is to say, you’re racists.
Everyone is looking for a single admin to blame. The account of mine that was attacked wasn’t even the blacktwitter one.
This is a structural problem. Anyone choosing to act like it’s an individual problem is contributing to the problem.
@freemo Thank you! And thank you for standing up for LGBTQ users!
I keep hearing "Well, what social media upholds Black people, then."
They don't get that -none of it does- and -that's the point.-
Well. I feel quite frustrated that I can't seem to get thru to white people why some POC, especially folks from Black Twitter, feel stifled by CWs. I also can't speak for them! I'm a 47 year old white woman. I've tried not to overstep.
Mastodon desperately needs diversity, but the culture in place is extremely hostile towards it on many instances. I'm queer so I can function in that capacity but there's plenty of queer white people here.
My friend @drskyskull called Mastodon the nice, white, gated suburbs and he's not wrong.
Had, by my standards, a nice relaxing weekend that involved socializing with friends and making progress on various Queen of Swords Press projects. We’re releasing Rem Wigmore’s WOLFPACK in January - it’s the sequel to FOXHUNT and we got another Laya Rose cover! Preorders coming soon! #solarounk #2023titles #smallpress
@freemo I think it's more professional and polished if you are looking at the camera. Having one photo so different from the others is visually jarring.
X-ray technician's hand showing damage from radiation exposure, c.1900. This photograph from the Royal London Hospital demonstrates just how damaging the effects of radiation exposure can be. X-rays were first discovered in 1895 by Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen, but their dangers were not yet understood.
Please note: the museum catalogue describes the person in this image as a "technician," not "technologist."
