is back!

The migration to the new server ran rather smoothly. We had a postgres version mismatch but it was resolved and we are rebuiding the feed. But no data was lost and all should be good. Welcome back and enjoy the new servers, we have doubled our capacity so hopefully everything will be far more responsive now.

@freemo I got to experience that adorable Mastodon error gif.

Attached if no one saw it!

@Surasanji @freemo I had grabbed it too - shared it with my dev team as an excellent one.

@freemo I like that his computer only apparently has one large button.

@freemo mine has many smaller buttons to interface with my specialized touch stumps.

@dee Technically I am on a MBP, but its 100% linux. First thing I did was wipe away OSX :)

@Surasanji

@freemo @dee I've been interested in doing some Linux stuff, but I do a lot of gaming and Windows is easy. Lazy me being lazy.

@dee @freemo How large of a USB stick would I need for a live version of linux? What sort of Linux would you recommend for a beginner?

@freemo @Surasanji

Ubuntu is considered beginner friendly. Puppy Linux is small and designed for portability IIRC.

If you're all about risk and going in hard, there's Gentoo. :blobcool:

@Surasanji
Knoppix is not a distro i recomend normally but for a brand new beginer who wants everything to just work, on a live usb stick, and has everything under the sun, then go with knoppix.

If you dont have a large enough USB stick however there are much smaller live distros.
@dee

@dee
Were they? I dont know, I just know i still have a livecd from them i made a few months back. It may have been old though if i wasnt paying attention to the version...

@Surasanji

@Surasanji Linux is its own beast. Good deal to learn but once you do you will love it if yoru technically minded.

@dee

@Surasanji Also, you can make your machine give the option to boot into Windows or Linux during startup ("dual boot"). It *can* be a hassle w8th modern UEFI supported machines, but often the procedure is easy and well documented.
